We all experience stress and anger at some stage in our lives. Sometimes, just for a few moments, and other times for days and days.

How do you cope with it? What is your stress relief? Does it always work? Do you turn to friends for support, or family, or blast music or go to the gym?

Please take a moment to help some of your fellow members by sharing what works for you, it might help some people!

This is going to be a new sticky in the Teen Stress & Anger Management forum.

I just deal, I usually break out like freaking crap though...
but I like to chat with family (more along the lines of cousins) about nothing, everything, life, dreams... crap like that
And then I'll go for a nice long drive with a really good mixed CD playing... reading also works, takes me out of my life and puts me in someone elses

There are many ways I cope with stress, mainly it is keeping busy and deep thought.

I have two jobs, am working on getting enrolled into university, and  am going for auditions for a musical.

However, sometimes things build up, I end up an emotional wreck, which sometimes I'll come onto LiveWire to explain. I usually use LiveWire to fill up the empty spaces of time because it is entertaining. I also play video games for that reason.

I often find that many people just need to find something that they like and can creatively pursue such as art, writing, music. Anything that can let them vent out their anger and frustration towards a world and also let them keep it as a memory.

obsessing, throwing myself at my homework or any other problem that presents.  (I ended up writing a 30 page english analysis that was supposed to be 3 last time I was in a particularly stressful scenario.)

talking to friends, or just holding a (particular, special =p) friend.

occasionally, drugs.

I listen to some good music, and I play it really loud.  I talk it out with my friends.  I go and do some exercise.  Or I write in my blog, that helps too.

I like to sleep it off. I have this bad habit of clenching my teeth, and it's messing up my jaw.

-- Posted by theAnomie at 2:01 am on Feb. 11, 2007

Make music deafen me. Sleep it off. Punch something. Make love. Comfort eat. Many things.

-- Posted by BlackAcidStars at 2:09 am on Feb. 11, 2007

I use religion to help my stress, I either pray, meditate or get spirtaul advice from anywhere from preists sharmens whatever. My other options are go for a walk or listen to music which helps but religion is better.

-- Posted by BrokenViolent at 2:17 am on Feb. 11, 2007

i go and do something creative; something that i can get stuck into.

-- Posted by hersheycups90 at 2:17 am on Feb. 11, 2007

Yell, cry, become the most sensitive person you'll ever meet.

I tend to keep my feelings bottled up and my mom often has no clue unless I start bitching her out.  Then she knows something's up.  But, when she asks I usually yell at her.

I feel bad when i do it but... those are my only ways of coping.

-- Posted by VirtusInternus at 3:37 am on Feb. 11, 2007

meditate, music but mainly lift weights and exercise.

-- Posted by Rocket Proffitt at 4:52 am on Feb. 13, 2007

well i listen to loud music and punch a punching bag or somethin to just get it out of me so i dont have to think about it anymore i think that helps

I get stressed out a lot, since I have a ton of things going on. But I usually try to tackle what is stressing me out, if it's a homework project, getting something done on time, whatever. Or I try to get some of it done, so that I can feel a little more relaxed. I also like writing my feelings down. I have notebooks of these things, just little random paragraphs when I feel stressed. Depending on the weather, I'll go out and run for a while. That can help clear my mind for a while. =)

I am often told to be an innaturally calm person. Calm to an extent that I sometimes make people around me to feel uneasy, since they are not used to being around that calm people.
That being said, it is very hard to make me feel very stressed, and I usually do not stress over little everyday things. Whilst things might worry me to an extent, they do not stress me, and my dealing with them is calm.

Even though the fact that I am so calm probably has something to do with genetics and the way I was brought up in, as well as with plethora of other little reasons, I believe that the main reason why am I so calm lies in me and my approach to the world. I just do not allow myself to get stressed over the events in my life. I do not allow myself to get angry, stressed out, frustrated or freaked out so easily, especially since I have this little habit of thinking that hardly anything is worth me freaking out over it.

Therefore, I do not have any particular "ritual" of coping with stress, I just realise that things might not be that important as they seem to me at the given moment.
Other people do not stress me out, I allow other people to be the way they are, and once you allow that, you realise that it is pointless to be stressed over your relationship with them or their acts. My duties do not stress me out since I have a reasonably good approach to my time and investment thereof. I do not stress myself out since I am on peaceful terms with myself. Unpredictable events in my life, constant changing countries and similar also do not stress me out, since I have got used to the fact that it is unpredictable if nothing unpredictable is going on in my life.

It is not that I have less stressful life than other people; in fact, with my unstable living situation, being torn between several countries, academic work apart from the regular lyceum work, and attending two schools, as well as living virtually on my own at 17, other people on my place would probably experience insane amounts of stress. But it is not your life itself that stresses you, it is you. You are the one that has control over how much will things in your life affect you, and how much importance you will attribute to things in your life, or to life as such.

It must be weird to hear it uttered by a person like me, but seriously - do not take life so seriously. I see all kinds of people getting stressed over things that will have little to no importance in a year, and it literally eats away their health, brain, time, peace. Why? Because they allow it to happen.
Basically the same goes for "bigger" events in your life... Why to stress over it? You do not help the situation this way, only hurting yourself.
That way, I end up being rarely to hardly ever stressed, simply because I have such an approach to life and world. I do not need any stress relief techniques to feel wonderful every day of my life, I do not need a stress to rule my life, I do not need a stress as a motive to dedicate myself to things that fulfill me, I do not need anything to give me an extra energy, since my life does not take away my energy - I do not allow it to.

When I get angry I go to my room and write in my journal.

i cut...when im stressed

-- Posted by GundamEpyon at 7:19 pm on Feb. 18, 2007

I don't have much of a problem with stress too often. But occasionally I will.

When that happens, usually it'll just depend on the mood I'm in. Mostly, I find a song that I really want to listen to, sometimes a rock song, sometimes a rap song, other times it's an upbeat track from a movie soundtrack.

And yet other times, I'll go play some Twilight Princess or Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones and cut up some baddies.

Hope it helps!

-- Posted by lltornll at 3:30 pm on Feb. 19, 2007

Well that depends on how angry I am, but usually I blast my music and just lay down and relax. Sometimes I cry, sometimes I'll punch a pillow, but usually I just try to relax.

-- Posted by Orion at 5:00 pm on Feb. 19, 2007

Play my guitar, play some shoot-em-up video games and play sports.

-- Posted by NoLongerNeeded at 6:40 pm on Feb. 21, 2007

Unfortunately, I usually turn to drugs, alcohol, and cutting.  I also smoke.

I had been doing so well.  Nothing since the new year.  Well, I guess I am just under too much stress right now.

-- Posted by Dragoonxx at 5:46 pm on Feb. 24, 2007

I think I've gotten so used to stress that it doesn't bother me anymore. But... things I do for relaxation include going for a jog, listening to loud-playing music.. and doing nonsense-stuff on the computer that helps me to forget about my troubles for awhile.
