Mike and I have been talking about names a lot lately and we both like all the names we have considered so far except for one.  The one that means to most to him is the one that I like the least.  He wants his son named after him but it isn't something I really want to do.  I understand that it is important to him and we will end up doing it but it is still just bugging me.

so make that name the middle name?

-- Posted by Areola at 5:41 pm on July 5, 2009

You both need to compromise.

-- Posted by Dylan Brittain at 5:41 pm on July 5, 2009

Just call him Dylan. Problem solved.

so use his name as a middle name instead of a first name, that way its still part of his name and stays in the family

I've never understood naming boys after their fathers... to me, that child will never be an individual, but always be his father's son.

Hey, if you dont like it, name it what you want. you are the one whose gonna be going through the pain of childbirth

To the person who asked his name haha

He wants the child to have his first and middle name. Not just use part of his name.

-- Posted by Blasphemer at 5:51 pm on July 5, 2009

Well then, give him two middle names, Mike and whatever adult Mike's middle name is. I have two middle names

It won't just be my child.  It is his son as well.  Naming a child after the father doesn't take away individuality.  They are simply named after their father.  My husband is a junior so his son would be the 3rd.  A son is still his fathers son regardless of his name.

I agree with bumping it to a middle name. You really have to like your child's name because you'll be using it hundreds of times a day. If it's bugging you already, it'll probably just get worse and it's a real pain in the ass to change a name later on, after it's official on paperwork. Sometimes impossible.

He doesn't want to make it the middle name.  His name is Michael Paul, after his father and it is very important that his son have the same name.  My fil is Mike, my husband is Mikey, and I really don't like the name Michael, so he would have to go by either his middle name, which I am not thrilled about, or we have talked about calling him Trey or Trace.

The name is really important to my husband and I am not going to tell him no, and there really isn't anything to compromise, I really just needed to vent.

He wants the name so bad he said I can name the other children whatever I want if he can have his son named after his father.

I don't really like the idea of Jr's but that is only my opinion. But I think that if it means so much to him, you should let him.. (even though you said you  were going to just saying) In the end he will still be that same little child that you both created no matter what name, and he will create his own personality under that name.

-- Posted by Chiefette at 2:52 pm on July 6, 2009

My husband is already a junior. So his son will obviously be the 3rd.  My husbands nickname at work is junior.  Ironically it has nothing to do with the fact that he is actually a junior.  It is mostly because he is the youngest employee....

I think that it is cute when a husband/father becomes really ecstatic and involved in the naming of the baby. And I also think that it is sweet that he wants to keep it in the famile and carry on the name. How far along are you?

I am not pregnant.  We plan on getting pregnant very soon, so we have been talking seriously about names.

We have been talking about names since we started dating.

-- Posted by Italianlnm at 4:33 pm on July 6, 2009

Ohhhh! I gotcha. Well I hope it is easy for when you are trying. I found out I was pregnant last week. My husband and I had been trying for a few monthes. But hey, it was fun. :)

Have you thought of a girl name yet?

-- Posted by Chiefette at 4:44 pm on July 6, 2009

My first daughter will be Scarlett Elizabeth. Scarlett from Gone with the Wind, and Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice.

We may have a hard time.  My husband had heavy metal poisoning and I have been having issue with my periods, so...

-- Posted by Italianlnm at 4:52 pm on July 6, 2009

Oh. Well I hope all goes well for you! As long as you know when you are ovulating you should get it right. :) That is a pretty name!

-- Posted by Chiefette at 5:02 pm on July 6, 2009

I don't ovulate, that's the problem.  I haven't had a natural period since December of 2008.  I have had 2 this year, both chemically induced.

-- Posted by Italianlnm at 5:03 pm on July 6, 2009

Well goodness. If they are chemically induced do you still ovulate? Or No?

-- Posted by Chiefette at 5:04 pm on July 6, 2009

I do ovulate, but not natually.  I ovulate some point during the hormones, and when is completely in the air.  The chance of getting pregnant during those isn't good either.

-- Posted by Italianlnm at 5:06 pm on July 6, 2009

Ouch! Well I really hope you get a better control over it and it helps making getting pregnant easier.

-- Posted by LoveKay at 5:09 pm on July 6, 2009

So, now I know who wears the pants...

-- Posted by Chiefette at 5:13 pm on July 6, 2009

I wear the pants.  My husband will deny that but I do.  I just love him enough to understand how important the name is to him.

-- Posted by Chiefette at 5:17 pm on July 6, 2009

I have never had a problem before last December
