me and my brother went over the border into Wisconsin to get some goodies for the 4th yesterday. On the frontage road about to get back on the highway, there's a buick in front of us and a truck in front of him. We hear this 'clunk clunk' sounding thing.. The buick goes around the truck and we saw that.

Reminds me of the time the tail pipe of my Chevrolet fell off. Didn't fall of necessarily, just dangled for a while, then fell off. Or the time the tail gate broke off and was being held on miraculously by a single cable.

Good ole coat hangers they have so many automotive and medical purposes, plus you can hang coats on them.

Same thing happened on our Wagon. I used an entire roll of duct tape on that bitch, and its still holding, three years later.

Speaking of U-Joints, both of our trucks need 'em. Both of our trucks, coincidentally (or not?), have broken Bow Tie badges on their plastic grills.

New cars are just cheap. Of my family's four American cars, only one has all its badges. That one is my twenty year old Ford Tempo. All its badges look brand new, and aren't faded or chipped like they are in my ma's '02 Silverado. For that reason, I'm sticking with the old and the time proven. When bumpers were painted and laden with chrome, and exterior aesthetics meant more then making it look fast.

Australians can't do math? 5/20 years is not half dumb ass. Plus, hibernation isn't all that great. It sat exposed to sun, snow, and vandalism with its windows rolled down and its battery drained. Hydraulics lock up, metals rust, hoses crack. Fortunately none of that happened to my car, and after simply charging up its battery and unburying it, it fired right up and drove on the spot. Since then she's been as reliable as can be. Only things that have had to be replaced was a $23 sensor and the right left spring. But because I love her, I've done some little upgrades here and there. By upgrades, I mean $3,900 and change in suspension work and restoration.

It's not even worth half that... And what could you possibly spend 3,900 dollars on in the suspension of a tempo?

No way! Had no idea! You're too fucking smart! Lets put it this way. The only thing that is stock or unchanged is the front axle and the rear control arms. The control arms are being replaced soon though.
-- Posted by FTF at 12:30 pm on July 9, 2009
BTW: $3,900 isn't just the suspension work. That ran me just under two grand. That 3,900 figure is the total stuff I've done to it. Or had done to it. Or whatever the fuck.
-- Posted by ScoobyDoo82 at 12:33 pm on July 9, 2009
$600 into Cavalier > $3,900 into Tempo I see where you are coming from though, as long as I dont spin a main bearing or something else that requires an engine rebuild, I'll fix it.
-- Posted by FTF at 12:38 pm on July 9, 2009
Exactly. Actually, the Tempo really only cost me $600 or so in required repairs. Although, to put all this in perspective, my twenty year old Ford economy car has cost less in over three years of ownership then my mom's 2002 Chevy blew in one day. $4,100 > $3,900.
