I love older people, I do. However, in all honesty, they need to be taken away from the drivers seat. I was driving along my town's main road, and an older woman is a few hundred yards in front of me driving at 10 mph in a 40 mph speed zone. She has her right directional on, as she wants to turn into the post office. Well, she turns a few yards too soon, and ends up on the sidewalk. Sigh.

Some old people can drive much better than many younger people. Ageism is not the answer.

I'm more for having people have to take a driver's test every 5 years.

Haha wow... That would be a site to see.

I've heard a story of an old couple that turned onto the WRONG SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY and just proceeded to drive along there way. That's bad.

I agree. Even 5 years is a big gap, though. Possibly every year.

and who would pay for that? the individual or the government? seeing as it would be a government requirement.

I'm sorry, but I HATE getting stuck behind old people that are driving slowly. You either drive the speed limit or stay off the road. It's just as dangerous to go thirty miles per hour below the speed limit than it is to go thirty above.

Ageed.

Yeah, but I'm sure there are some young drivers that have done much the same (or are going way over than 40mph). I've seen some older drivers who drive just fine :).

The individual would pay for the test. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

eh, I disagree with multiple tests.

as opposed to young people who think they're indestructable and do 90 in that 40 zone and end up splattered on the pavement...

Regardless, our reaction speed is much more quick and precise than that of an 80-year-old. I'm not saying speeding is better than going vastly under the speed limit, but teenagers are overall more in control physically.
