if im applying to a college, im not obligated to take a class unless i register and pay for it correct?

I don't think that you necessarily have to start right away. If you are in a poor financial situation, I think that they would understand you not taking classes right away. I'm not exactly familiar with the whole college scene, but I do know that people tend to take semesters off. If you could, I would try taking at least one prerequisite class to your major that way they know you are serious about attending. If you are having financial problems, try talking to the school's central desk and receiving financial aid. If you apply to the college, you don't pick the classes right away. You only decide which classes you take once your accepted. (: Sorry if this wasn't of big help.

A simple way to find out is the ask academic counselors at the schools you're interested in. Transfer students still have to be accepted to the particular college/university. It would surely help if you had some courses under your belt and showed that you can handle college classes and pass them.
