We'd known each other for over a year and he said he's always liked me (he flirted with me a lot so I know he's not making it up) so it wasn't instantaneous with him. And I know it wasn't with me because I started having feelings for him too, it just took a while to get together. We told each other that we loved one another (or at least he did, that much I remember) before we started dating and we've been together almost 2 years now. I suppose I think it's possible if you've known each other a long time. Feelings can develop and stay hidden for years or even a lifetime. I know that he liked me all this time, I just didn't realize how much... You like him, you care about him, and clearly have strong feelings for him. You clearly havn't been in many relationships so now that your in one you want to hurry up and label it, just let it be what it is. Don't worry about your relationship not lasting because how your being, just enjoy being together, im sure you'll be very happy together if you just stop worrying!
