why? i'm only 18

It's just a connection. It's not determined by age.
Just a choice.

my friends give me all the emotional connection i need

That's why I said it's a shame, that you are focused only on what you need.
It's fine, I accept nearly every lifestyle and choice. I just don't necessarily agree with most.

i should immerse myself in someone and be exclusive to them just because they feel like i complete them?

You shouldn't do anything you don't want to.

i don't live based only on my own needs and wants, but when something interferes fundamentally with my present state of mind i have no choice but to get out of it
when i'm uglier and more weather-worn i'll settle down

Which is perfectly fine, everyone should do what makes them happy or feel like they've led their life as best they could.
But I was just saying it is to me, personally, a shame.

HOW WOULD I ACT IN YOUR IDEAL WORLD??

HOW WOULD I ACT IN YOUR IDEAL WORLD??

Well, in my ideal world I guess everyone would be sort of a romantic. Everyone has a partner that they love more than anything, and puts them above all else.

If love is first in your life, you really can't go wrong.

i don't think many of my peers have been in a failed 2 year relationship
after you invest so much of yourself into something that slowly diminished, not even beautifully collapsed, faith in anything greater than yourself and your capabilities is hard to come by.

Well, I was speaking about mostly you not wanting to commit. I think everyone should always be wanting to commit to love.

it's more of a defense mechanism than a libidinous greed

I thought that might be it, until you used your age as your reason.

if you plant little pieces of yourself all over the place you are less inclined to shatter!
