For centuries, Hindu women have worn a dot on their foreheads. Most of us have naively thought this was connected with tradition or religion, but the Indian Embassy in Ottawa has recently revealed the true story. When a Hindu woman gets married, she brings a dowry into the union. On her wedding night, the husband scratches off the dot to see whether he has won a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop, a taxi cab or a motel in the United States. If nothing is there, he must remain in India to answer telephones and provide technical advice.

Yes, several times. We have the exact same stereotypes here, though.

It's not poking fun at stereotypes though, is it? It's just making a stereotypical joke about a group of people, at the expense of them and their culture. Not clever, and not funny.

It's rather laughable that you're trying to patronize my within a topic you've posted called 'that "dot" on her forehead". If there was any attempt at some postmodern irony in that joke, it was subtle enough not to make bill hicks worry about losing any posthumous business. It just came across like lazy racial stereotyping - vaguely and pointlessly offensive, and not funny.

If anything this joke is a sobering thought about the woeful state of the US economy.
