Agreed. And I HATE that people assume that just cause a teenagers got a baby or little kid with her, it's automatically hers. Um hello? Little brothers and sisters anyone? Or babysitting? FUCK. /rant. But yeah, your problems not cool either. Not cool.
-- Posted by GoliathJustin at 11:46 am on June 26, 2009
bc the young mothers get more ass then they do.

Because they make bad choices. Teens aren't capable of truly caring for another life. I'd be pissed to if I was a grandma and I got stuck with it.

cuz they shoulda kept their legs closed. 13-18 is too young in my book.

Because they have pre-existing views and just assume that a young mum won't be a great mum. Personally, I believe anyone younger than 23 is very young to have children, but sometimes it just happens - it doesn't mean that they'll be a bad parent.

Because the majority ARE idiots. They can't even wipe their own ass clean, how do you expect them to clean a baby's? Regardless, I agree with you though. Not all young mothers should be treated this way :)

right... back before people regularly lived past the age of forty. this is a stupid argument.

That has zero relevance to the lie that "teens aren't capable of truly caring for another life." Anyway, the life expectancy of people who live past puberty has always been similar to the current life expectancy.
-- Posted by Chiefette at 2:34 pm on June 26, 2009
WRONG! The llude expectancy has never been as high as it is today. Back not to long ago the life expectancy was only 40 to 50 years old. Advances in medicine etc have greatly increased the average life. Yes there we're a few people that lived to 80 but that was rare. Also the argument that teens were expected to have chilern in the past is irrelevant. Not only was the life expectancy shorter girls were raised to raise babies. From a young age they we're out in charge of sometime multiple children. They were expected to be nothing more than parents and were trained so to speak for that. Teens now are no where near that a majority of the time. Many times a teen parent has never even healf a baby until the give birth.
-- Posted by MamaMockingbird at 4:52 pm on June 26, 2009
Because statistically, the majority of teens are shitty parents. And whatever age you're at where you're not financially and mentally stable is too young.

Exactly.

It doesn't matter to people who just see a teen parent walking by whether your a good parent or not. People are judged on this because they were irresponsible to get pregnant. That's why people judge young mothers so often. They're judging the act, not what comes after that.

Teens are selfish. Teens don't have the kind of responsibilities that they did "historically" .Times change and so do those responsibilities.

Not true. There are many countries where young girls are expected to have children by 20/ and not all teens are irresponsible and raised in the spoiled American fashion. I was a teen mother and I'm doing really well.

I was 22 when I had bridger. And he was welcomed into an amazing home. I was married and we were trying for a child. We were in a great place at that point. He is in the army and I am a pharmacist, and we have a good enough income to raise a family. So I really think that the age depends on what situation you are in at the time you get pregnant. Though I really think that anyone under 20 shouldn't get pregnant no matter what situation, but mistakes happen. And I only say that because up until that point you have so much going on. You are in school, or what not and it really isn't the time or place for a chile. But Mistakes do happen, and Kudos to those who deal with the mistake and take care of your child. Kudos. If your child it happy, healthy, loved, clothed, and fed then you are good to go. And even though it may not be the BEST situation possible I have respect for those who stand by what they did and deal with the consequence.

Those are countries where poverty is high and education is not always available. In these types of countries because education is not always readily and always available to where people can afford it, women are not given the skills to have a career. In America women have options and that means the opportunity to better themselves.

How does that have anything to do with whether or not teens are responsible enough for children, either at present or in the past?

You weren't a pharmacist when you had bridger at 22 were you? I thought it was a 6 year degree required which would mean 24 so were you in school for it then and now are a pharmacist. Or maybe you skipped grades. I know this is off topic, I'm just curious since I was thining about dropping pre-med and going for pharmacy.

So just because women have the opportunity to better themselves it makes them too good to have children. Personally I was put on earth to be a mother. I've always known it and I've been prepared for it by taking care of my brother and sister, watching my cousins (one is mentally challenged) and I don't mean for an hour or two. I have my cousins (ages 1,3,and 5) for two and three weeks at a time at 14. My parents taught me how to cook and alot of other neccesarry skills. I've been doing my own laundry since I was 6 or 7. And yes being a mother is alot different than babysitting but I can't say that watching my aunt and uncle raise their boys and watching them myself hasn't helped. Since when has bearing children been looked down on? I would be perfectly fine being a SAHM but I'm still going to go to college and I'm working. I have plans and goals but my #1 is to have 5-7 children and raise them into fine young men and women.
