Note: The game rules posted in this topic govern only your actions in this topic. There are no game rules regarding your actions outside of this topic. However, such actions are done at your own risk. Moderators will ensure that you do not break any of Livewire's guidelines within this topic or outside of it.
GETTING INVOLVED IN THE GAME Ready to play CONQUEST right away? You can join the game at any time! Currently you can not create a republic, but you can join a current republic:
Joining an existing republic: 1. Go to the POSTING TEMPLATES post 2. Hit the QUOTE button 3. Highlight the template for "Citizen Allegiance Post" (everything inside the "code" tags, please) 4. Press Ctrl+X, then Ctrl+A, then Delete, then Ctrl+V 5. Indicate which republic you are joining 6. Hit "Add Reply" 7. Change your Livewire avatar to the flag of the republic that you've joined. (Flags can be found here.) After that, you don't you don't have much to do unless your Supreme Minister calls on you! But feel free to read the rest of the rules or talk about the game in the topic, if you want.
Notes about leaving a republic, for those who are not a Supreme Minister:
If you are already a citizen of a republic, you may switch allegiance to a different republic, if you want. Post a new Citizen Allegiance Post informing me of your new situation. I will note your new allegiance when verified.
If your republic gets conquered, you may also make a new allegiance. The process is exactly the same as noted in the above bullet.
READ THESE #1: THERE ARE EIGHT (8) RULES POSTS IN THIS TOPIC. READ ALL OF THEM. THEN REFER BACK TO THEM OFTEN. IF YOU GET SCREWED OVER BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW OR REMEMBER HOW THE GAME WORKS, IT'S YOUR FAULT. #2: Whenever you want to make an official game action, ALWAYS post in this topic using the appropriate template from the POSTING TEMPLATES post. The first line of your post MUST be bolded or size 6. (More info here if you need it.) If you do not follow this rule, your action will not be acknowledged. #3: Post EVERY official game action in a separate post. If any template that I've made doesn't allow you to combine actions, don't try combining them in a single post. If you do not follow this rule, only the first action requested in the post will be acknowledged. #4: NEVER edit ANY post in this thread under ANY circumstance. If you do not follow this rule, you will be warned, punished, or worse. #5: Don't cheat, and don't allow your opponents to cheat.
If you screw up in any way that I haven't considered, I will determine on the spot what to do about it. Anyways, don't get yourself sent to the black hole.
The object of the game is to defeat your opponents in war. This is done through invading republics, having luck, gaining citizens, making money, colonizing stars, and/or using items.
The game will begin when I feel like it, after a few republics have been created. I will announce when the game begins.
Each new republic starts with a random amount of money and a random item.
The main time system of the game will approximately follow real time. Game "days" begin and end whenever I want, but I expect that the "day" change will be soon after I wake up (IRL of course) and catch up on all previous posts.
Some parts of the rules (mainly war procedures) mention "real time." When necessary to use real time, the clock used in this game will be the Livewire clock. That is, the timestamp on a post will be considered the real time that the post was made. (To view the timestamp of a post that was made within the last hour, hit the post's QUOTE button and read the first line inside the "Post" box on the page that comes up.)
Posting in the topic
This topic is to be used for posting official game actions, but you are free to use it for general game discussion. If you have questions about the rules, please PM me to ensure that i see your question.
It is your responsibility to read and respond to the topic. I will not PM you to notify you about any game action.
I will read/verify posts in this thread in the chronological order that they are posted. That means you should read them in chronological order too.
I will try to verify posts and update the topic as soon as they are posted.
I may go offline or have to deal with a backlog of posts at any time. If this happens, it is up to you to figure out whether any post is valid and act on it (if desired/necessary) before I verify it and update the topic. The game does not stop and wait for me to verify posts or update the topic; verifying posts is something I try to do simply for players' benefit. The first post notes the latest post that I have read before updating all of the information on the first page of the topic.
If two posts conflict, I will acknowledge the post that was made first chronologically and I will ignore the post that was made second chronologically. If it appears to me that two posts were made at exactly the same time, I will flip a coin to determine which was "made first".
Read the FAQ for information about what happens when a player requests an action that can't be carried out (because of insufficient funds, etc.)
I reserve the right to ignore posts made by noobs or by members that I suspect to be alternate accounts.
Game: STATE OF GAME | HISTORY | REPUBLICS | STORE | POST TEMPLATES | RULES | FAQ RULES: Getting involved | Ground Rules | Basics | Citizens | Money | Items | Expanding & War | Managing power | Winning CITIZENS OF YOUR REPUBLIC Gaining citizens If you want a strong, healthy republic, you'll probably want to recruit citizens. This is pretty straightforward: just convince other livewire members to commit to your republic. To become a citizen of your republic, a member must first post a correctly formatted Citizen Allegiance Post in this thread indicating their desire to join your republic. The Citizen Allegiance Post template is available in the posting templates post.
NOW HERE'S THE CATCH. All citizens of your republic MUST also change their Livewire avatars to your republic's flag and keep it as their avatar for the rest of the game. (Once you submit your Republic Creation Post, I will do my best to quickly upload your flag and post avatar links in the main post for 128x128 and 32x32.) I will be checking avatars regularly, so make sure that your citizens know they have to keep the avatar.
Losing citizens If a citizen who makes a Citizen Allegiance Post to join a republic is already a citizen of another republic, they will automatically be removed as a citizen from the previous republic, and then added to the new republic when verified.
If you wish to purge citizens from your republic, you must make a "Purge Post" in this topic indicating which members are no longer citizens of your republic. You can find the template for Purge Posts in the POSTING TEMPLATES post.
Your republic begins the game with a random amount of funds (between 50Q and 250Q).
Once a day, you earn more Q from taxes and resources.
TAXES: every day, your republic earns money from its citizens:
50Q from every citizen with a red membername
20Q from every citizen with a blue membername
10Q from every citizen with a green membername
5Q from every citizen with a brown membername
RESOURCES: every day, your republic earns money from its stars:
75Q from each of the first 5 stars you control
50Q from each of the second 5 stars you control (if you control at least 6 stars)
25Q from every additional star you control (if you control at least 11 stars)
250Q from every galaxy arm you control (this occurs if you control every star labeled a certain letter on the map--either U, V, W, X, Y, or Z. Some are easier to control than others!)
500Q from the center ring of the galaxy if you control it (this occurs if you control every star labeled R on the map)
I will update each republic's funds at the beginning of each day based on taxes and resources from the previous day. I will make a summary post in the topic, and then edit the REPUBLICS post.
You can purchase items at any time unless your republic is engaged in a war. To purchase items from the Merchant Ship, post a Purchase Post in the topic. Make sure that you have sufficient funds to pay for the items, by checking the REPUBLICS post. After a purchase, I will update your republic's funds and items in the REPUBLICS post.
The Merchant Ship has a limited number of items for sale at any given time. It restocks items occasionally; I will post notifications of restocking in the topic. Prices of items may also change over time, but I will not post notifications of this.
Using items Some items that you buy affect your republic automatically, and some items have to be specifically deployed.
If an item is for use during war, save it until you are engaged in a war, when you only have to list the item in an Armament Post to deploy it. However, some items are for use at other times, and you must make a Deployment Post to use them. Pay attention to the information about items given in the Merchant Ship post.
Trading items You may trade items with other republics at any time unless your republic is engaged in a war. If you want to do so, discuss the terms with the other republic through whatever means you prefer. When you agree on terms, make a Trade Post and ask the other republic to do the same. When I see that both republics have agreed, I will update the REPUBLICS post.
If you wish to buy items from another republic, simply treat your Q as an "item" in the Trade Post.
Once a day, you may send some of your forces to one star that is adjacent to any star that you control. This is called either colonization or invasion.
(Two stars are adjacent if, on the expansion map, a red line connects them without passing through any other star.)
Colonizing Stars If you send your forces to a star that is currently not controlled by any player, you colonize it if you have sufficient funds. The cost of colonizing a star is 100Q. The benefit of colonizing a star is that you control the star, giving you more resource funds every day as well as an opportunity to expand further.
Invading Stars--READ CAREFULLY. THIS IS PROBABLY CONFUSING. 1. If you send your forces to a star that is currently controlled by another republic, you attempt to invade it. To do this, you must make an Invasion Post in the topic. 2. The republic that controls the star being invaded must make a valid Fight/Flight Post within 9 hours (real time) of the Invasion Post. If they do not do so within the time frame, the attacking republic must make the Fight/Flight Post for them within 12 hours (real time) of the Invasion Post. If they do not do so within the time frame, the Fight/Flight decision is "Flight" by default if the defending nation has 200Q or more, and the Fight/Flight decision is "Fight" by default if the defending nation has less than 200Q. 3. If the defending republic chooses to flee in the Fight/Flight Post, it must have 200Q, which is automatically transferred to the attacking nation. The attacking nation then takes control of the star. If the defending republic chooses to fight in the Fight/Flight Post, the two republics become engaged in a war. 4. If the republics become engaged in a war, the defending republic must make a valid Defensive Armament Post within 3 hours (real time) of the Fight/Flight Post. (If no Fight/Flight Post was actually made and the decision was "Fight" by default, the defending republic must make a valid Defensive Armament Post within 15 hours (real time) of the Invasion Post.) 5. The attacking republic must make a valid Offensive Armament Post within 18 hours (real time) of the Invasion Post. If either republic does not make an Armament Post within the appropriate time frame, that republic forfeits its opportunity to use any items in the war. 6. Once both republics have made Armament Posts (or 18 hours have passed after the Invasion Post was made), I will determine who wins the war. Details about that process are below. 7. The winning republic receives an amount of the loser's stars proportional to the percent victory (rounded up), as well as all of the loser's funds and remaining items. The name of the losing republic and its Supreme Minister are sent to the black hole. Bye bye! However, citizens of the losing republic other than the Supreme Minister may join other republics or make their own new republics if they wish to do so.
Determining who wins a war I will use Excel to simulate the following. For each republic, a 20-sided die is rolled for each citizen that the republic has (since numbers of citizens change over time, the citizen number in the war for each republic is established when that republic makes its Armament or Joint War Post. Citizens gained or purged afterwards will not affect that republic's number of citizens in the war). Then the die rolls are summed for that republic; this is the initial Power Rating (PR) for the republic. Then the effects of all items that the republics chose to use are carried out. The republic with the highest PR after these steps is the winner. If there is a tie in PR, I will repeat the process until a winner is determined.
Example war: Republic Alpha has 10 citizens and uses items that add 50 to its PR. The 10 die rolls sum to 106. Thus, Republic Alpha's final PR is 106+50=156. Republic Beta has 35 citizens and uses items that add 10 to its PR. The 35 die rolls sum to 398. Thus, Republic Beta's final PR is 398+10=408. → Republic Beta scores an overwhelming victory. Margin of victory is 408-156=252. Percent victory is 252/408=62%. → Republic Beta receives 62% of the stars that Republic Alpha previously controlled (rounded up).
Alliances in war All alliances in this game are unofficial. That being said, if a republic that borders your republic (i.e. it controls any star that is adjacent to any star that you control) is engaged in a war, you may join the war*, against either side, whether anybody wants you to or not. To do this, you must make a Joint War Post within 12 hours (real time) of the original Invasion Post. Further, you must make the Joint War Post before either the defending republic or the invading republic makes a valid Armament Post, whichever comes last. Once you make a Joint War Post, you are engaged in the war. "Allies" in a war will have their PRs and items combined.
If your republic and your "allies" in the war win the war, I will divide the spoils evenly among your republic and the "allied" republics. If I cannot divide the spoils evenly, I will divide as much as possible evenly, and then give the remainder randomly.
If your republic and your "allies" in the war lose the war, your republic faces the same consequences as if you had lost the war without any "allies". The name of your republic and your Supreme Minister are banished to the black hole, and all of your funds and items are added to the spoils.
*ALSO: when you join a war, look at the expansion map in this post. If you cannot trace a path along red lines from a star of your republic to a star of a potential opponent republic without passing through an uncontrolled star or a star of a republic that is not engaged in the war that you wish to join, YOU MAY NOT JOIN THE WAR.
Multiple wars Multiple wars may occur in the game at the same time. However, you may NOT make an Invasion Post or Joint War Post if: a) your republic has attempted an invasion that has not been completed or defeated, or b) a republic has attempted to invade a star that your republic controls and the invasion has not been completed or defeated.
You may make a Joint War Post but NOT an Invasion Post if: a) the republic you wish to invade has attempted an invasion that has not been completed or defeated, or b) a republic has attempted to invade a star that the republic you wish to invade controls and the invasion has not been completed or defeated.
During the game, the Supreme Minister may appoint citizens of their republic to 3 special positions that give those appointed citizens specific powers in the game that the Supreme Minister already has, in hope of allowing their republic to respond to game events whenever the Supreme Minister is offline. I will consider EVERY post that is made by the citizen who is currently appointed to the respective position to be an official action of their republic, given that the post is correctly formatted and otherwise valid:
Powers of the Foreign Minister*: Colonization; Deployment; Invasion; Joint War; Offensive Armament
Powers of the Defense Minister: Defensive Armament; Deployment; Fight/Flight; Offensive Armament
Powers of the Commerce Minister: Deployment; Purchase; Trade
* The Foreign Minister may also make official Fight/Flight Posts, but ONLY in the following situation: when their republic is attempting to invade a star and the defending republic does not make the Fight/Flight Post within 9 hours (real time) of the Invasion Post. See the invasion & war rules for information about the invasion process.
To promote a citizen to (or demote a citizen from) a minister position, the Supreme Minister MUST make a Promotion/Demotion Post. I will then edit your republic's information accordingly in the "list of republics" post. At any time, each republic can have, at the most, ONE Foreign Minister, ONE Defense Minister, and ONE Commerce Minister.
TIPS ABOUT MINISTER PROMOTIONS: →No republic is ever required to fill any position. This is simply an option for the republic's possible benefit. →Any citizen may be appointed to multiple positions at once, within their republic, if the Supreme Minister so desires and none of those positions is currently filled by a different citizen. →Appointing a citizen to a position does not take any aforementioned powers away from the Supreme Minister. Minister appointments simply give citizens some of those powers additionally. However, if the Supreme Minister (or an appointed minister) and an(other) appointed minister make conflicting posts, the one that is posted first will be considered the official post and all later conflicting posts will be ignored. Thus the Supreme Minister should only appoint people whose judgment and obedience they trust. →Be sure to know who your opponents' ministers are (click here to view). You will not want to act based on a post made by a person who has no appropriate power.
The Supreme Minister may demote themself from Supreme Minister and promote a replacement. This is done by both players making a Promotion/Demotion Post (one promotes, the other accepts the promotion). When a Supreme Minister steps down, they become a powerless citizen; the new Supreme Minister must make a new promotion post if the former Supreme Minister wishes to become Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, and/or Commerce Minister.
Game: STATE OF GAME | HISTORY | REPUBLICS | STORE | POST TEMPLATES | RULES | FAQ FAQ -Wait, I've seen this before, right? Basically. CONQUEST is based on two great Livewire works: TiMmEe's DOMINION from 2005 and myystic's EMPIRE from 2007 (topic corrupted ). Thank them for the majority of what you're playing today. I really couldn't have done this without their inspiration.
-All I see is one wall of text after another. What's actually happening? You have a chance to conquer the galaxy. That's what's actually happening. Now, just read this short post.
-Is there some sort of entry fee? How about prizes for winning? There's no entry fee. As for prizes, I'll give a couple hundred points to the winner, but a better reason for playing is just having some good old fun.
-Can I spam up the forums or people's inboxes in order to get people to join my republic? I personally don't care at all what you do outside of this topic to get people to join your republic. The rest of the site probably cares, though, so don't break any LW guidelines.
-Are stars X3 and W6 adjacent? Yep. I just messed up a little bit and I was too lazy to redo the whole map. Sorry.
-So...like...I can't send you a PM about the game? Actually, you can PM me all you want. Questions and comments are great things to send via message. It's simply that all your official game actions have to be communicated through a post in the thread if you want them to be counted.
-You mentioned that there's a place on the map called "the black hole". Why can't I see it on the map? Because light can't escape a black hole, silly. And neither can the people who end up there.
-Why do we have to use these gay posting templates? Be nice! They make it easier for me and for the other people playing to know what's going on.
-This post template has three lines for items. Do I have to use all three lines? No! You can deal with as many or as few items as you want at once. The extra lines are there just to indicate that you can deal with more than one in a single post.
-What happens if I make a post requesting a game action that can't be carried out? If that action is the first (or only) action requested in your post, I will not carry out ANY of the actions you requested in your post, and I may inform you of your error if you don't know already. Then, make a new, correct post. If the action is not the first action requested in your post, I will carry out the first action requested, and ignore the rest.
-What happens if I make a purchase post that can't be completely carried out? I will start at the top of the list and go down, selling you items until you run out of money. If you request an item that is out of stock, I will ignore it and continue going down your list.
-Aren't the big black areas on the map areas that I can't cross? How do I attack the big teal star? You don't. Just take over every other star, and you win.
-Your game map sucks! Can I make a better one for us to use? Shut up. No, you can't.
-What happens with the money if somebody's membername changes color in the middle of a day, if a republic takes over a star in the middle of a day, etc.? Taxes and resources are calculated based on solely the situation at the very end of the day.
-Does the Supreme Minister count as a "citizen"? Of course!
-Can I use Wiccans in the same war in which my opponent uses Wiccans? Yes. If the total number of Wiccans used in the war is even, both republics keep their original number of citizens. If the total number of Wiccans used in the war is odd, the republics switch numbers of citizens for the sake of the war.
-Can I join a current war right now if I've already colonized or invaded during the current game day? Yes.
Other questions? Ask in the topic or in a private message. I'll answer them.
I'd love to join in, but I don't want to change my avatar. Is it really necessary?
yes it is in my game we have PRIDE for our republics
but somebody may create a republic and then offer you points to join it, if that kind of incentive works for you
I can't say it does...unless it's like, HUNDREDS of points. Which is kinda dumb.
Before I left LW before, there was another game going on with countries and that. Did anyone ever make a new one of them?

i heartily endorse this game. i may even end up playing; time pending.
prepare for a world of people wanting to fucking kill you every time you moderate any aspect of the game to their disadvantage though, hithere. also, watch out for jared.
people; it's not as complex as it looks. he just needs to add all these rules such that when you do start whining about something he'll be ready to ruleslap you. i just hope the new champagne-sipping theatre-set of livewire inhabitants can stomach this. get it stickied.

Dominion 2?

This would be the fourth game of "Dominion" if hithere wants it to be seen as such.
