But you have to protect him and keep him safe. Teach him to sleep in his bassinet. bunnyinspace Posted at 12:21 am on July 4, 2009 I co-sleep with my 9 month old, Some nights she sleeps in the crib, others with me. I think it's perfectly fine, AS LONG AS YOUR SMART ABOUT IT.  You certainly shouldn't put them on a pillow, you mattress/crib mattress is fine enough. Though when I was breast-feeding I usually just used a normal pillow and if she fell asleep I would just put her and the pillow on the floor while I tidied up or ate which I think is perfectly alright as long as they are supervised.. I suggest you do some reading about the pros and cons of co-sleeping and sleeping on there own. Cosleeping creates the risk of the baby falling, being rolled on or smothering in pillows and blankets. Bassinet or crib sleeping creates the risk of SIDS. Which one bothers you more? Don't get him used to sleeping with you. He's 6 days old, he'll learn to sleep in his bassinet. Just do NOT let him sleep in bed with you. I've heard of hundreds of mothers smothering their children. When my son was born, he cried two nights in a roll because he didn't want to sleep in his crib, so I'd sit next to him and put my hand on his chest and he'd fall asleep. Sit next to him and comfort him and let him know you're there, just do NOT let him sleep in bed with you. I'm not even kidding. Also, don't put anything in the bassinet. If he won't go to sleep in a crib/bassinet, you might have to hold him/rock him until he falls asleep. Then put him in his crib. See Me Now Posted at 9:05 pm on July 2, 2009 I am definitely going with a no. co-sleeping CAN be dangerous, but if you feel the need, lay him on the bed, not a pillow. Set the pillow on one side, and you're on the other. Having him on the pillow gives him the possibility of falling off, where he can't go anywhere if he's just on the bed. Please be careful, I've read SO many stores and seen on the news- moms sleeping with their babies and they end up laying on them or whatever.... him sleeping in a crib is much much safer.
