your sound card might be fried, speakers can create white noise as long as power flows through them.

  Eurgh fantastic

depends, you should  dismantle your sound card and disconnect,/ reconnect it to check for faulty connection. and it will be visibly fucked up if its fried

Fanks I'll get onto that

Really?  well, you learn something new every day. Now I know what to do when my sound starts messing up

Exactly my thought.
Interferance from Wireless shit can mess em up a bit too.
But usually won't cut off music from playing.

Whats wrong with it?

Like, it'll take a while to explain I hope you don't mind

First off I know for certain that it isn't my earphones that are broken or whatever - it's also not the program I'm using, it doesn't work on anything, be it itunes, windows media, youtube etc.

It still has that quiet static noise all computers have that would indicate it's working fine. Gets louder when you turn up the volume etc.

But there's just NO sound.

It'll work again when I restart the computer, but after a while it'll make this weird buzzing noise and then stop working completely until I restart again.
