Seriously though, keep trying. If things get really bad and I suspect they might, volunteer to work at places for free. Ask if they need any help at all. That way if things recover and you've proven that you're a respectable person, you'll be almost guaranteed a job when the business has the money to pay you. This is an old but little known Great Depression trick. You'll likely be paid sooner rather than later because the business owner will see what a great worker you are and feel guilty.
If you're younger then usually they want you over middle aged people? Washing dishes? That sort of thing? Times are tough, hang in there mate.
