Only six percent of America's scientists identify themselves as Republicans; fifty-five percent call themselves Democrats. By comparison, 23 percent of the overall public considers itself Republican, while 35 percent say they're Democrats. The ideological discrepancies were similar. Nine percent of scientists said they were "conservative" while 52 percent described themselves as "liberal," and 14 percent "very liberal." The corresponding figures for the general public were 37, 20 and 5 percent.

Quote: from Elm at 7:19 pm on July 12, 2009 As a Republican scientist I find this post and the article LOLworthy. No offense Elm, but there's a lot of anti-science fundies in the republican party. Yes, I know you're not one of them. But more and more, the people who aren't, the people who are more moderate or more intelligent, have been leaving the party. It's hardly a surprise that fewer scientists want to be associated with the GOP now, but I'd be surprised if there aren't a significant number of more conservative-oriented people in that group who simply don't identify as republican.

And I can say there are a lot of anti-science individuals in the democrat party as well. People who don't weigh evidence, people who abhor the idea of cost-benefit analysis and the like.
That being said very few independents and a great deal less conservatives are republicans at the moment, and I really can't blame them.

Hypothesis, test, test, test, test...etc, theory...(peer testing)....
Maybe not all, just 94% of them from the numbers in the article.
