I recently Reinstalled the operating system on my Dell because It was full of Virus' and such, so I just redid the entire thing. The problem now is that i can not get it to connect to my DSL. I Plug in the connection and nothing happens, I have manually entered the IP address and DNS and Still nothing. Any Advice??

Thank you.

It seems like whatever version of XP you installed, it's clearly missing the drivers that are required for you to detect an external modem hardware. If you downloaded it somewhere or torrented, there's a good chance that you may have downloaded a condensed version of XP, because some people actually prefer that and having their computer squeaky clean and without extraneous software that they're never going to use.

If you are going to download XP, do not download TinyXP. Try downloading the full version, then using WinISO or something like that to burn the image of the download onto a disk. Now when you restart, you can just boot using the disk then do a clean reformat once again and this time I think your computer will be able to detect your DSL modem. Make sure you have everything backed up though.

But even this is risky. I highly recommend that you go out and buy a copy of Windows Vista and install that instead. This way you'll have a more up-to-date version of Windows and you'll also be a little more safer when you use the internet. If the RAM you have on your computer now isn't quite 500MB, which is the minimum requirement for Vista, take it to Best Buy and those guys will gladly add or replace a few extra sticks required for the install. It won't cost you much either and you'll notice an increase in performance.
