Remember: stores factor shoplifting into their prices, so if you don't do it, it's like they're getting money for free! :P

A few different things could happen, but most likely you will never be able to hold a customer-service type job, or any job dealing with money or selling. Doesn't sound too bad typically (although it can be frustrating when you start getting into the job market). If it's anything like the US then you probably won't get into jail, and I would be highly suprised if anything "serious" would happen (you may have to do some community service or pay a fine, but that's not too bad in the big scheme of things). Contrary to what the poster above me said, many companies really do not care to press charges. Especially if they can just get the merchandise back that you stole, it really isn't feasable for them to try to take to court everyone who steals.

You would be charged very definitely-stores don't give an inch on that or their losses would be even bigger. Most likely you'd be given probation or a "conditional" sentence on first offence. Conditional would be something like "Stay out of that store (or others like it if it's a chain) and stay out of ALL legal trouble for one or two years and you will not have to serve any sentence. Screw up (including other shoplifting, drug or alcohol offences, even a shoving match with someone..or any other offence) and you'll be required to serve the sentence. What that sentence would be might range from 50 to a couple hundred hours of community service, restitution (paying for what you stole) or even some jail time, to that'd be unlikely. However you would still have an arrest record. You wouldn't have a criminal record if you were given a conditional sentence and stayed out of trouble but if you were given an immediate sentence, even just community service and probation, it's still a criminal record. So, just what's so important to steal that is worth joining the Loser Rank?

you are a minor, it probably won't be a big deal. you might be banned from the store or something. if you are one of the unlucky ones that actually has to go to court or something, you'll probably be put on probabtion and have to pay back what you stole.
