It's not like I haven't done anything at all...I've had a few girlfriends (no serious long-term near-marriage relationships though) done every sexual thing imaginable that can't give me a disease (that is, everything short of sex and oral).  Based on what I've done, I know I've got what it takes to please a girl, but I still have the embarrassing, burdensome V-card and feel like the only one on the planet my age (21) who does.  I often have the desire to just lose it to some random hookup just to get it over and done with (using protection of course) but when the opportunities have actually come up, there's like a very powerful voice in my head or gut feeling or something that warns me that this isn't how it should be.  I guess I am an idealistic romantic at heart and what I truly want is to meet an "innocent" girl in a similar position as me because I know deep down that love is what really matters, not sex.  How then do I overcome the overwhelming social messages like "everyone's doing it," "virgin = loser" "sex makes you mature and is a rite of passage," etc.?  Are there others out there in the same position?

I'm 23 and still a virgin.

Not everyone is doing it. And who gives a crap if most of them are - if you want to wait until it truly means something, is special, and you absolutely won't regret, all the more power to you. Be proud of your morals and your decision, and stop worrying about what others think or do.

Someday you'll meet the right person and have sex when you're ready and find it truly means something. Believe it or not there are plenty of people out there making the same choice.

This.

I was 20 when I lost mine. And I kind regret it.

Well, I don't think that I'm a loser because I'm a virgin. I'm 20.

I've had boyfriends, but I want to lose my virginity to someone that I love and trust completely and could see myself marrying.

I mean, if something went wrong and I were to get pregnant, I wouldn't want it to be with some jerk or some random guy whose name I don't even know. I would want it to be with someone whom I love and who I would be proud to have a child with.

Sometimes I feel like you do, but I know that if I go out and have sex with some random guy, I will not only regret losing my virginity - which is something you only have once - in a meaningless fling, but I would also feel disgusted with myself for compromising my morals and beliefs just for lust.

 PM me if you want.

I have noticed than alot of girls I knew in high school are now in Facebook groups with names like "I'm going to have crazy awesome amazing sex...when I get married" and all of them are girls I respect and hold in high regard, so they and people like you are definitely alot of help. On the other hand, peer pressure is definitely a cruel mistress.

Yeah, it is. People that know that I'm a virgin sometimes assume that I'm stuck up or that I'm a huge prude. And I've been called frigid and uptight.

But I don't really care, at the end of the day. I know people who lost their virginity at 14 and a lot of them now have had (unplanned) children - some right out of high school. I know 2 girls who got herpes from having drunk unprotected sex with guys they didn't even know.

I'm not necessarily waiting until I get married, but having the respect of others is something that I hold in high regard and I feel like I have so much more to offer than just sex. I don't hold it against people if they lost their virginity early or they have lots of one-night stands, but I definitely have more respect for people who are waiting until they're in a committed, loving relationship - whether they're married or not - to have sex.

I think it's far more than just pleasure - there's a huge amount of trust and vulnerability involved.

Kudos to you, my man. Stay strong!

Stick to your beliefs.

You're the 1st guy I have ever heard/read/seen...whatever....that prefers to wait for that special someone. That's really nice. I think there'd be a lot of girls who'd find that as a very attractive trait.

I know what you mean, by people putting you down, or..that it seems like that. I'm 20...I lost my virginity when I was 19...under the pressure of all my mates giving me shit for being a virgin. I regret losong it to the person I did, just a random friend who doesn't really care.

If I could go back, I'd change that, and wait for love.

Congratulations for being yourself and not giving in like that.

don't feel bad. When I'm your age, I'm sure I'll still be a virgin. I've only kissed before, not even made out, and I'll be 17 next month. I want to wait until I'm in a serious long term (like 2 years atleast) relationship. Maybe even until I'm married or engaged. I think it's admirable you're still a virgin:). Good job!

I am still a virgin and not because I don't want to have sex. I do. But only when I feel absolutely sure that it's the right time and the right person, That doesn't mean the perfect guy with whom I'll live happily ever after. I mean a guy who I feel will value the moment just as much as I do. Peer pressure means nothing to me. I'd never do anything I'm not ready to do just because another person tells me I should.

By the way, I edited this because my first reaction wasn't a fair one. I was upset about something else when I posted it.

I'm definitely still a virgin, and I'm 19. I wont say I've been waiting to get married, because I've considered having sex with someone I dated before, but bottom line: I was waiting for the right person.
