After WWII, the Zionist movement was established and grew. 1948 would be the beginning of this whole conflict as the Zionists moved into the land and basically took it away from Palestine. Since then, both groups have been fighting. On the other hand, I disagree with your sentiments on Israel. Israel IS a Jewish nation, whether or not you choose to recognize it as so. Granted, much of the land was taken away by the Palestinians, it is still its own Democratic nation. The only plausible solution out of this is the establishment of two states in the region.
