Sooo, yeah...I got an HP about 7 months ago, a laptop. I paid for the store warranty so that I would have extra time on top of the manufacturer warranty but apparently they're both largely useless. The left clicker broke a month or so ago. I couldn't get it looked at until now because I was in school and it takes like two weeks to get it back. As soon as I got home, I went to Staples which is where I bought it. They aren't allowed to fix it so the one guy suggests that I call a certain number and ask for a local repair shop that HP works with.
So, I call this number and after talking to about 3 people with very thick accents that I couldn't understand, I'm finally told to ship it away. No one ever gives me the name or number of any local shop and I'm totally ignored but I figure whatever, fuck it, I'll send it away.
So I get an email yesterday saying it had been received. I get another one today asking that I call them so I do and, long story short, they won't cover physical damage whether I broke it or not and it'll cost me $300. Oh, but I found it quite funny when the guy said "Our technician did find that the button was broken." No, really? He must have a Bachelor's in Computer Science to have figured that one out.
Okay, so, let me get this straight...if it had been a software issue, which the dumbasses kept asking me about, they basically would have told me to wipe it. If it's a hardware issue, they'll fix it but for a minimum of $300? Um, why does the manufacturer warranty even exist? -_-
And my local Staples seems to only have two good guys there. The other two I saw were total jerks and even if they could fix it, they aren't allowed to. Wow, just really, wow...is this typical? That something breaks on its own and the manufacturer won't fix it under warranty?
And is that even an okay price? $300 freaking dollars to replace the, I think he said, top part of the case? -_-
