'My brother likes to program computers. He does this every evening on his own in the office.' (or words to that effect)

I can cope with 'Mein Bruder mag Computer programmieren', but I'm shit at German and have no clue how to do the second sentence.

Ugh.

That's 'machen', which would be...'macht' here? (Just for the record, I really have no clue whatsoever when it comes to German)

It sounds like your translation came from an online translator. Keep in mind these do a very poor job for German. I'm taking a German class right now, and I can tell you the first sentence isn't the best way to say it.... however, I'm not "good enough" (nor confident enough) yet to give you the proper translation.

I didn't use an online translator, but I did have to look up how to say 'computer programming' in my dictionary. I know it's not the best way of saying it, but unfortunately I don't know the best way of saying anything

I would have said, "Mein Bruder Computer programmieren gern."

"gern" means "pleases" (roughly), so it dosent carry over to English 100% directly, but I believe it is a more correct way of saying it.

I've used 'gern' before, but that was in my first year of German and we always used it with 'habe', e.g. 'Ich habe FuBball spielen gern'. However, I'm not sure if I've remembered it right (I paid almost no attention at the time, dammit!) and I haven't seen it used like that since so I've just avoided using it.

This is what comes of taking a subject when you're a year behind everyone else and didn't bother working even in the classes you dod do
