 That's another thing. Tattoos are a terrible form of self-expression. Yeah they may say a lot about you now, but 10 years down the line you're going to be a completely different person and you'll have a bunch of ink that doesn't reflect you as a person at all. Not to mention there's nothing worse than being reminded of who you used to be, because chances are hindsight will make you look like a terrible little shithead.
I kind of like my friend's logic on the subject: tattoos represent you at a certain phase of your life. You're going to outgrow that (so it seems sensible to pick a tattoo that you will be at least OK with when you're old), but you'll always have the memory of who you were that the tattoo represents. My tattoo is the culmination of 13 years of training in martial arts, and though I might not continue to practice martial arts into my old age (though I would certainly prefer to), I will always remember/ be proud of the years of dedication that I put in and the accomplishments that I achieved through that. In that sense the tattoo is more commemorative of what I have done than who I am, and that's something that I will always have and honor.

i do not see the appeal of piercings at all. i never judge people for having them but i believe that our bodies are perfect the way they are. no need to go putting holes in them to hang metal through :S

I'm planning to get my first tattoo done within the next couple of months. It will be a latin phrase on my left wrist, with a little star undeath it. The phrase will either be "Planto is Duco" (many meanings aparently, but for me - make it count), "Memento Vivere" (Remember to live) or Vita Brevis (life is short). I'm getting it there to mark when i attempted suicide, lived, and turned my life around (many, many years ago)

NO! I didn't do it purely to piss my mum off, I'm not stupid. It just does so it's another reason to love them. I had them done to mark on my body a milestone in my life. Anyone got an issue with that?

I like the pain of piercings too and I want more just to feel that again. I can take them out when I'm older and to be perfectly honest a metal bar that can be removed that is through my face is better to piss my mum off than a tattoo that says "FUCK YOU BITCH" that will be on my skin forever.
Agreed. Piercings can be easily taken out, hidden wit retainers for work, school, etc. But tattoos are forever. And even if you get them lasered off, it does more damage to you (no to mention it costs a fortune) If I get tattoos (which I will) I will think long and hard about them, and make sure they will not look bad when I'm all wrinkly. Even if you go out on the spur of the moment and get a piercing, you can change your mind, but tattoos are a big boo boo that can not be erased.
