We place two individuals of different races inside a zone that supported life just like it does in a normal environment.

They both are infants.
They both have no parental bearing.

Lets say we give them what they need to grow up normally and healthy.

Their only social interaction is between each other.

Could these two possibly have any reason to have any superior or inferior feelings toward each other based on race? Could it conclude that racism/stereotypes are learned?

No. YES.
Stereotypes, the need to feel superior, inferior, unhealthy social interractions are all derived from influences in one's immediate environment. With this eliminated, one would be injudicious to them.

That depends... They'll both grow up in the same environment but I don't know big a role genetics play in ones behavior.. If leadership is something genetic, then the kid with that gene is likely to be the boss.. but I don't know about making the other his servant.. I don't believe that would have happened with the two..

given your bizzarre set of premises, it seems unlikely they would be racist.

I mean, why would they be? -- surely racism requires a reason in order to exist?

In anycase, I think if you ever watch young children play you will notice they really are not judgemental: - boys play with girls, muslims, blacks etc.   Exclusion seems to come a little later (i,e age 7+)

Given your hypothetical, I don't see why either child would have a concept of race in the first place. If they didn't know of/ interact with humans other than themselves, why would the develop a concept of race to explain their physical differences?

Definitely true.

They'd have no concept of race. As far as they'd know, each human being would have their own unique color and set of features.

You say that you are going to give them what they need so they can grow up healthy. how would you go about doing this with out being there? infants can not feed themselves.

now if you solved that then you can continue to get your answer to your question...

lets pretend you didn't have to feed them.

answer to your question... no. they would be equal in each others eyes.

Sorcery.

It's a hypothetical, that doesn't matter.

ummmm, not once in the first post did i see anything about the question being hypothetical. so yes, it does matter. it seems to me that the asker is asking for theory.

Dear Christ, if I could revoke your intellectual status for that I would.

The poster is not legitimately proposing dropping two infants on an island and seeing how they grow up. It is a thought experiment. It is a hypothetical situation. Whether or not robots or pixies of God himself gives them sandwiches and vaccinations is beyond the point.

I don't think that racism or stereotypes would be the issue with only these two people. It would become something far more elementary like who's taller or bigger. It would no longer be a battle between brawns and brains because with only 2 people strength would be all either of them needed to feel superior.

With just two children I seriously doubt that would happen. They'd be too reliant on each other.

Now if you did the same with a bigger sample, say 40 children. I think that they would definitely develop some form of racial identity. How far it would go I don't know.
