It's EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified). Bulimia is binging AND purging.

No. But it doesn't matter hat label you put on it. Purging is still damaging to your health with or without the binge.

there are way too many unspecified... in order for it to be either aneroxica or bulimia it must fit the exact definintion. However, since you are eating more often, it sounds like you are off to a good start as far as winning the battle against you eating disorder. After all, you have to start somewhere.

It's not bulimia but it is still an eating disorder classified under EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.) I think it is called purging disorder.

Bulimia nervosa is classified as binging (the consumption of large amounts of food in a short period of time) and followed by behaviour to compensate for the large amounts of food. Most commonly, it's purging (throwing up), but it can also be through the use of laxatives and enemas. What you're describing is a normal consumption of food, or even small portions of food followed by compensatory behaviour (purging). This type of disorder is classified under EDNOS, and is called bulimirexia, or more commonly known as purging disorder (though commonly seen as two separate disorders, it is sometimes hard to distinguish between the two - one being characterised by normal intake of food, and the other of below normal intake). EDNOS stands for Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified, and basically means any abnormal or disordered eating patterns, that fall outside of the criteria of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Your friend is wrong, but that doesn't mean that what you're doing is any better. While binging and purging is not healthy, eating smaller amounts then purging is not any healthier. You will slowly kill your body. You will most likely develop the condition known as GORD if you continue this behaviour, as well as other things such as an inflammation of your oesophagus, constipation, damaged and yellow teeth, damaged and yellow fingers, your throat will swell up, and you'll be quite revolting to look at. Not to mention, you'll hardly lose any weight. You'll just get sick to the point where they'll hospitalise you and force you to eat. It really isn't pretty. I hope you have intentions of stopping this bad habit, and breaking the cycle of purging. Post edited at 6:26 am on Sep. 22, 2009 by hi sarah

There is a purging, and non purging type of anorexia. Bulimia is binging and then purging. Anorexia can be where you starve, and over excerise or just starve and throw up when you have to eat. You need to talk to your doctors about this before it gets out of hand!
------- As far as I'm concerned...you're just another picture to burn!

Hey there. Long problem, short answer (not really, but I'll go into detail) Bulimia isn't bulimia unless it includes binging. Sarah already gave you a wonderful, and what your friend was most likely referring to was that there is a disorder known as the Binge Eating Disorder and it doesn't necessary have the bulimic issue tagged along with it.
binge eating is one of the primary symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa. A binge involves eating, in a short period of time, an amount of food that is larger than most individuals would eat under similar circumstances. ~~MentalHelp.net
So basically, the main symptom with bulimia is binge eating. Sometimes we may think that the amount of food which we are eating is a healthy amount, but in reality we are intaking a bit more than we should. Not saying that you do, but what you may see as a normal, appropriate amount could be a bit over the top. Which would lead you to forcing yourself to throw up. If you don't go on binge eating sprees beforehand, that doesn't make it any less better. You're still forcing yourself to throw up, and in the end the same consequences are going to happen. Meaning that you are tearing up your esophagus and still putting yourself at risk to infection in several areas of your body (such as your salivary glands.) Along with that, you're risking other issues such as broken blood vessels, respiratory disease, and many other issues. So is it better? Not at all. You're depriving yourself of nutrients (granted a lot of them still do stay in your body, but not to the fullest extent) along with putting yourself at a heightened risk for other issues. Although it wouldn't be classified as Bulimia Nervosa, that certainly doesn't mean there isn't an issue at hand. :/
