Sometimes, my hair just gets flatter and doesnt get very straight, like I want pin straight like Martin Johnson from Boys Like Girls.
My hair is pretty thick, could that be why? How could I get my hair much straighter?

Try a straightening serum/shampoo, and work in little sections. Hold the top layer straight up rather than straight out, so you won't get that poof/kink.

You have to straighten small sections of hair at a time and go slow when you're straightening it.. You can't just clump your hair together. Also get some heat protection spray for your hair it'll help.
