It's probably best that you take it to Apple to see how much it'd cost to fix. It might actually be cheaper for you to buy a new one depending on how expensive it is. You could actually go somewhere else and they'll do it for you. This place provides the parts and instruction that enable you to go it yourself. You really do have a lot of options, any short google search will tell you that. :)
That usually ends up voiding your warranty though if you do it with some 3rd party company. I dropped mine outside the health centre earlier this year, and it cracked. These cases I think Apple generally forward you to the cell phone provider (being AT&T in the US) and then they'd send it off to be repaired. I paid ~£125 for mine, which is not cheap, but a damn sight better than the £350 it would be for a brand new phone.
And it WON'T be cheaper to get a new iPhone. iPhones are subsidised devices and hence if you break it you'll have to pay the full price for a new one (that being the Pay and Go version), not the original subsidised contract.
In my view, it was far better to send it off through my cell phone provider. They sent it to Apple who repaired it, and when it came back they just stated they'd given me a new (well refurbished) iPhone because it was simpler. So in effect I got a brand new phone for half the price O2 were going to charge me.
