Seriously, I've learned my lesson. Trying to write an 8-page research paper in one day IS NOT FUN. And I just keep hitting myself because I could have done it so much sooner and it would have been so much better had I only started it earlier and now it's going to suck so badly and my professor is going to think I'm stupid and ahhhhhhhfuckeverything. I've only I'd started this sooner. If only, if only... If only I hadn't wasted so much time in the past couple weeks. If only I hadn't been so overconfident by thinking "Oh yeah, I can do it in a day. It won't be so bad." I HATE MYSELF S0 MUCH RIGHT NOW.

Heh, I've done an 8 paged research paper in 3 hours. The trick is figuring out ahead of time exactly what you're going to write - the research question you pose (you probably want to have the specific wording worked out in your head), the methods you use, the analysis you make, the conclusion you draw from that analysis, etc. Once you have it figured out, it's all a matter of wording.

That's pretty much me. I usually don't leave three hours, but I've done them in about 5 or so. I usually walk around thinking about my topic, what I'm going to argue, where I can find the information. Come time to write the paper, I can easily push out a page every 30 minutes once I get past the introduction. Hopefully you will learn your lesson. I've told myself that SO many times, but I can't break the habit. Instead, I've come to accept my procrastination and work with it. I accommodate for it by making sure I nap before I stay up all night, or making sure I'm going to have all the sources RIGHT next to me. And ironically, the one paper I ever planned out and physically wrote points down on a paper for, made an outline, etc... was the only paper I've ever failed... Either way, when you do want to procrastinate on something again, remember this instance. But I warn you that if the habit is truly engraved into your system, instead of telling youself it won't happen again, make plans to WORK with it. You may not be able to start the typing... but if you can at least get yourself to think of your points, maybe look up quotes/sources before hand... then you can do it.

i've made that mistake, but i am still a loyal procrastinator. and proud of it.
Why on earth would you seek pride in procrastination? Sure, we all do it to a certain extent but its better for it to be controlled than to be proud of... What was the research on? I hate doing research that thousands of other university students have already undertaken - it just seems entirely pointless. Research in flying vehicles and better energy supplies would by far benefit overall society - perhaps even extended life expectancy? Or am I just getting ahead of myself. In the 40's, 50's and 60's they predicted that by the year 2000 the world's oil dependence would cease and vehicles with the ability to float would be widely available. Technically we're behind by ten years. Consistently repeated research by the world's intellects is a big reason why. All the best!
My paper ended up being all about the BNP. Lol. I got to cite Nick Griffin's Question Time interview. 'Twas fun. No really. Post edited at 4:57 pm on Nov. 8, 2009 by airemaye
