helllo ill give points or whatever to whoever can help me.

I am taking college statistics and I am doing a section about finding the x and z values when the area under the normal distribution curve is known.

This is the actual problem..

Let x be a continuos random variable that follows a normal distribution with a mean of 200 and a standard deviation of 25. Find the value of x so that the area under the normal curve between the mean and x is .4525 and the value of x is less than u.

Ok now I have the answer in the back of the book but I have NO idea how to do this problem.

PPLEEEEEAASSSEEE HELP!! i have a test tomorrow

That's college stuff? I did that in 10th grade. Hmm, let me think. If I can figure out how to explain it, I will.

First look into a statistical table (areas under the normal curve) a probability value equal to .4525 and take note of its corresponding z score. In this table, .4525 has a z score of  1.67. But in you problem, x should be less than the mean and this table shows probabilities for x above (to the left) of the mean, so z should be -1.67 (to the right).

Using the formula for z:

     x - mean
z = ------------
       sd

            x - 200
-1.67 = -------------
              25

Solving for x:
(-1.67)(25) + 200 = x

Therefore,
x = 158.25

Is my answer correct?
