Absolutely necessary. Absence of the state has never proved to be a wise idea.

What else do you propose? Global anarchy? A superstate?

the working alternative is small tribes, but people won't give up creature comforts for that

How would an anarchist community look like? Also, who would take care of the security of the population? Some civilian militias?

I would organize the largest union of state militia's in a non profit donation run security.

We would be bound to protect by consent of the people because they would voluntarily fund us ( in exchange for protection ).

Those who were against our security forces would be considered aggressors and dealt with appropriately.

We would have strong presence in every major company that manufactures, develops, or harvests in the United States (in name) and would immediately begin international security services, creating high paying high caliber jobs for all healthy combat able adult (defined at 13 or older) men.

We would make recommendations in every industry where our protection is being offered and guide civilization in an appropriate and free direction.

We would have detention facilities and would follow a strict and fair procedure regarding detainees, which the full scope of would not be public.

This is currently illegal if I were to follow the vision directly, without any government projects like mine would compete with each other continuously until I won outright.
