I want to remain anonymous so my dad doesn't read he says I should go to the Doctor because of family history of ovarian cancer, but the thing is, I am still a virgin!! I don't think I need to go yet but should I go just to get him off my back?

First off, how old are you? It's not recommended (as a necessity) until you're 18 (although some people would argue 21).

If you've had sex, its recommended within three years after your first time. Since you haven't, this shouldn't be an issue.

If your family has a history of ovarian cancer, then yes, you need to be more cautious, but that doesn't mean you need to go immediately.

A lot of things should be taken into consideration: How old you are now, who in the family has had ovarian cancer, whether or not you're sexually active, how old the people in you family were when they got it, etc.

It's not so black and white. And no offense... but it's your DAD. What the heck does he know about gynecologist visits?

Dude, tell him no way!

You do NOT need to go yet, and at the very least not more than just to talk. Supposedly it's "ideal" to go around your age, but just to ask any questions you might have and kind of get an idea of what it's like.

Point being, you're not sexually active, somehow I doubt you're going to get ovarian cancer at 16 (how old were your family members that had it?), and you're ONLY 16! You don't NEED to go yet!

Seriously, I would ignore him. Again, he's your DAD, and men (no offense, not trying to be sexist) really don't know much when it comes to this stuff.

Ovarian cancer isn't a sexually-transmitted thing.
If you've got a family history of it, it doesn't MATTER whether you've had sex or not; you need to get checked out.

Not necessarily.

Depending on when the other members of her family got it, and considering she's only 16, she's probably safe to wait a while.

Of course she's safe to wait a while.
I'm not encouraging a young virgin to rush off to the Gyno; trips there can be painful and awkward, even for non-virgin females.
However, she DOES need to get checked out, at SOME point, in the future, to be safe.

I agree, in the future it's a must.

But given her age, he dad is out of line. She doesn't need to go yet.

Indeed.
Most dads are clueless about female health issues, tho. He's TRYING to be helpful, lol.

He's TRYING, I'll give him that.

But seriously, it should be illegal for dads to get involved with things like this.
