My dad had an issue on his gaming computer from overheating, so he rebuilt it with two fans and he hasn't had any trouble.

I am setting the upper temperature limit for my CPU that would be considered a dangerous level to reach. This is because i play hardcore games on my PC and i would not like it to burn out. The highest i've obseved it running at was 61 degrees celsius. Would 65 or 70 be considered a critical point which it would be dangerous? I'm setting the program "real temp" on a shutdown on reacing this point so it has to be the very limit. OH, i do not overclock my CPU, and i have a Intel Core Duo CPU at 2.667 GHz.
Also, 'hardcore' games don't require the best graphics card. You just have a shitty one.

i'm not going to buy anything new. I have a gaming computer with gaming hardware in it. I'm just using an extra precaution. Whats the absolute limit that a CPU should be running at?

If you're using the stock heatsink, I'm afraid that you really should be buying another one. Intel's stock heatsink is a terrible design. Hell, the fan for the heatsink is mounted in an impractical way! $15 would get you a much better heatsink. Quote: from Macropiper at 8:58 am on Oct. 30, 2009
The CPU in my laptop has supposedly got to 90 C, according to the temperature monitor. It regularly gets to 80 C when I am encoding video or otherwise pushing the computer hard. Who knows how accurate it is, but 70 C is not going to harm your CPU.
It reduces the lifespan of your CPU, running it at high temperatures like that. Post edited at 4:40 am on Oct. 31, 2009 by allsmiles

As its a laptop, there is little I can do to make it run cooler, other than underclocking. As long as it lasts another year or so, its all good anyway, I plan to replace it with something better by then.
