I just need to rant:

It's REALLY annoying working in retail and getting some of the ridiculous customers. Look, I help a lot of sweet people, but some just make me want to go postal.

Today, my shift was going really well until I was checking out a woman who wanted to make an exchange. I work at Old Navy and our policy is that you cannot make an exchange without a receipt, which was her case. So, I explained to her that she could return all of the items and then receive a merchandise certificate in the mail within the next week. She then gave me the okay to do that.

After I completed the transaction, I repeated to her that she would get her certificate in seven days or less. This was when she flipped shit on me. Apparently, it was "in no way made clear" to her that she wouldn't be able to use that certificate today. I very calmly tried to explain to her that I did mention that and that I would get a manager to fix it. I wasn't making a huge deal about the EASILY FIXABLE problem, but she just wanted to keep insulting me. I think what really set me over the edge was when she said my name in the most condescending tone: "And you, Shelllllbyyyy, did not explain this to me correctly!"

Bitch.

Some customers do that stuff on purpose, trust me. I used to work in retail a long time ago, about 4 years ago. Some customers know perfectly clear what you are saying, and they understand everything about the policy etc... they just act like they do on purpose because they want their 15 minutes of fame I guess, or having a bad day and want to make another person suffer as well. The best thing for you to do, is just smile at them and be as polite and as nice as you can back to them, "kill them with kindness."

I will never forget this one lady. I worked in a fine jewelry section in a department store, and this one lady came up to me and she said she had a return on a watch she had bought. The lady goes into her shopping bag and takes out a box, and inside of this box was a watch that had clearly been worn several times, a few scratches were on the glass, and what was even more funny was the fact that the watch was not even ours. She had stuck some expensive "knockoff" brand into this case and thought she could get her money back for a knockoff, and keet the original.
I politely told her "ma'm, this is not our watch, and plus we cannot return it because it's been worn and scratched, I'm sorry" and this lady started to curse, throw a tantrum, and demanded that I returned it. I told her the same thing I said above once again. She then wanted to know "well, scuse me, but how is it a fake when I bought it from you guys not even a months ago, you must be selling fakes yourself!" and I told her, "I can tell bc our watches have serial numbers on the back cases, and this watch does not" I had showed her an exact same watch and she then demanded to talk to the manager, I called the manager and he comes down and I explain the problem, she does her bit, and it all boiled down to the fact that she left very angerly, and said in a loud voice "I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN!!!"

Funny part? I saw the same lady not even a month later with a handful of clothes checking out at a register near me.

Customers are not always right. You have some that will act just as dumb and stupid as they can be, and they know perfectly well the return policy etc... but they will put on such a fake front and it's more funny than it is annoying.
