I was copying films my friend had d/loaded to my laptop and one of them, it won't delete. I never watched it and if i double click it freezes the videos folder. It also freezes it if I try to cut it and paste it into my external hardrive or if I try and view its properties.

Is there any piece of software or any way I can try and delete it?

Naw you were diwloading porn, admit it.

Nortron 360 is Pretty good. Here's a list of possible softwares they offer. Try to avoid viruses hidden as softwares. It will cause your central unit to crash.

If Avast doesn't get rid of it in a normal scan use the boot-time method.  Seems to get rid of stuff more.

I doubt that this is a virus, From the things you have described it sounds more like a corrupted file that is crashing your computer. Does this happen for quite a bit of video files or only this specific one? If it happens for a bit of them it may be a error that can occur when the computer tries to find a thumbnail for the video clip, I have had this error before. It can be easily solved if this is the case.

If it is only that specific file which you have mentioned then it can also be easily deleted by following the instructions I have provided; I am assuming you are using Windows XP because you didn't specify which operating system you use, If this is not the case please inform me of your operating system and I will provide different instructions on deleting this file. The instructions I have provided show how to delete the file from your computer using Windows XP.

1. Click on the Start button (Bottom-Left corner of your screen)

2. Click "Run"

3. When the "Run" window opens type in the text area "cmd" and press enter. This will open the command console

4. In the command console type the following command:

cd ../../
This command changes the location to your C Drive (or whatever your default drive letter is).

5. Press Enter.
The command console should now say
C:\>

6. If this is correct, Minimize the command console and find your corrupted file (Do not try to open it or even put your mouse on it, Just find it!) Remember or write down the location of the file.

7. Open the command console again and write in the following command:

cd c:\foldername\foldername\"
Replace C:\foldername\foldername with whatever the path of your file is; This should only be which folder your file is in! Do NOT include your files name at the end of it.

If you have done this correct the console should say
C:\foldername\foldername>

8. If the previous command worked correctly type in the following command:

del filename.avi

This command will delete your file! Make sure to replace filename with whatever your corrupted files name is and make sure to replace .avi with whatever extension your file has.

If your file is a AVI file the extension is .avi
If your file is a WMA file the extension is .wma
If your file is a MPEG-4 file the extension is .mp4

Good luck with deleting the file, If you can't understand anything or need help on any part of it or you have any questions you can PM me and I will explain anything that needs explaining. If your operating system is not Windows XP or this didn't help you please notify me so that I can update my instructions.

I tried to do it following the instructions you gave me, but it didn't work.

I have Vista, and the file is called "LA Confidential" in the folder "Videos" which is in "Joe".

The command console wouldn't work when I got to the part where I had to put the foldername bit in (even though I followed instructions correctly).

What is your user account name? What is your default drives name?

Can you right click the file and select 'Properties'
Copy paste the section that says 'Location'

Thanks.

It won't open properties.

My username is joe, and default drive letter is C

So the file is in c:/documents and settings/Joe/Videos/?
If this is correct type this into command prompt on the step where you got stuck:

cd c:/documents and settings/Joe/Videos
