I am looking for some laptop recommendations for a college student. Less than 17 inches and running windows 7 would be great. It had to have a CD drive. Your thoughts?

Windows 7 - it has to have a Cd drive?

I'll assume that you know what windows 7 is and then advise you get a mac.

They don't get viruses and are much faster that a laptop. Usually I would recommend a PC but for a laptop, macs are atleast 300 times better.

If you get a refurbished one then you can even save a couple of hundred dollars!

I just bought a new laptop.

HP, 14.1 inch screen, 5 lbs (nice and portable), 4GB ram, Windows 7, built in webcam and TV tuner, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, has CD drive, and even a DVD writer.

I'm loving it so far.

$730 normally, on sale $80 off at Costco/Costco Online right now ($650 final price).

Not to be rude, but I disagree.

My household is home to both Mac AND PC laptops. Our Macs actually have MORE problems. We even had to use the warranty on one to get a completely new computer, the software crashed and completely fried the hard drive (keep in mind, this is my mom's computer, and she's COMPLETELY paranoid, never downloads ANYTHING).

Our PCs are fast (for the most part) and reliable. We have one that is almost 6 years old, and although slower than it used to be and outdated in terms of technology, it still works amazing for it's age.

And honestly, especially with electronics that are as expensive as this is, I'd avoid refurbished. The warranty usually as good, and you never REALLY know what you're getting. It's not worth the risk in my opinion.

*Edited for typo*

Edit: I'm actually kind of liking Windows 7 as well. It's different, but it does have some cool features.
