They were a colony of Spain, just like how America was a colony Britain. The Spaniards that were living in a territory "fought for their independence and somehow they became a race. I think that they should not be a race, or American should be a race.

The ones that know their ancestry, like myself, are citizens of Mexico, but Spanish of ancestal origin.
