What kind of car should I get?

I'm trying to think of what kind of car I should get.

-It would preferably be an AWD or at least a FWD. Needs to handle snow and ice well.
-I want something somewhat sporty with at least a little bit of power.
-Gotta be 4 doors.
-Must have a manual transmission.
-Would like something that gets in the 25mpg range.

Probably something in the early to mid 2000's. I am on a budget.

Any ideas that fit that criteria?

No fucking Hondas!

WRX.

I was thinking about that.

I was kinda looking at Jettas and A4's too. I'd love an Audi :)

before you say no hondas..

consider some of these came with both AWD and manual trans..

heres a few i dug up from an old motor trend article..

theyr'e shitty so just stick with me..

they're very very very VERY good offroad..

and you can mod the shit out of the motors just like any other honda, and make decent power.

22-26 mpg stock.

Insurance here is cheap compared to yours.  I've read how much it costs to insure young drivers in the UK.  For the price someone pays for insurance in the UK  for a 1.3l diesel, you could get very nice coverage for a performance car.

There are Minis with the Cooper Works, but does not meet the 4dr requirement.

So, if you are on a budget, how big is it?

The CRV's are okay but I want a car.

Yeah I'm on my mom's insurance. Cost me about 100 a month.

I would love a mini cooper but  I doubt I could find one in my price range.

Probably be about 5 or 6 thousand max.

Used Subaru Forester (not a car, but not big at all), Legacy, or Outback.  Meets all requirements.

Points please.  Just kidding.  I have more points to give away that I know what to do with.

Well they do meet the requirements, but no thanks. Really doesn't get any lamer than a subaru outback. :)

I wouldn't buy an A4 with the budget you're on... but a Jetta is a great alternative. I had snow tires on my 1998 Jetta and it dominated even the harshest North Dakota / Minnesota / Wisconsin winters and it was dead reliable. For 6k you could get a higher mileage (90k or so) VR6 which fits the powerful / sporty bill, has a decent manual transmission, stability and traction control, leather seats, alloy wheels, about 27 mpg highway... Look for a 2001 or 2002 since the window regulator and coil pack failure rates for these are significantly lower. Avoid early year 1.8T Audi and VW engines.

Yeah I definitely wanna look into WRX's. Legacy B4 wouldn't be too bad though either.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
