I'm a nineteen year old American and I'm looking for a country that is easy for me to enter and easy for me to provide for myself in while I learn a foreign language. I won't have the financial support of my family so my question to you is if you think its easier and cheaper to go to Canada? I've only been twice and both times I was younger so I don't really know the legalities of going there, would I need a work visa to work just as I would if I went to a foreign country? Are there a lot of centers teaching French in Canada? And what else should I know before trying to make the move on my own?

Transportation, Living expenses, Food, Fun, Tuition... please lay it all out for me. Thanks!

There should be a canadian government website you can find to help answer all these questions.

Yeah I'm going to check it out for the work visa question but the rest I'm looking for answers from people closer to my age.

You'll definitely need a work visa.  The thing is, if you want to practice your French in the country, then you'd need to go somewhere like Quebec.  Canada may be bilingual in terms of it's primary language, but the majority of people speak English primarily.  Quebec however would be more likely to have French speaking.

The other thing is, the French spoken in Canada is not exactly the same as the French that is spoken in France.  While there aren't major differences, there is something that's considered Quebecois French.

Either way, you'd best talk to the people in charge of you going there.  It's a huge country, so it really depends on where you want to go.

when you say tuition do you mean studying univ in canada? because as a foreign you will pay double the tuition rate that a canadian pay's. just like if a canadian goes to the usa for univ they pay a higher tuition.
