I know that feeling too. If I could have the choice not to ever have existed I think I would want to take it. It's a sad thing to think about. Life can be so much trouble.
It makes me angry and upset to dwell on that though, because I do exist and I can't change that - I will have to get on with things as best I can, and so I try to make my existence a little bit worthwhile by encouraging other people and doing decent things. Some people we remember or have heard about (Mother Theresa, but also countless others) for the help and hope they brought to other people - they made life a little bit brighter, they made the world a better place in their own small way. The smallest kindness you do will still have an impact on someone's life and be worth doing.
Why do you prefer the 90s to now, Gruadia? I sometimes wonder what it'd be like if I'd been born a few years earlier (or even many years earlier)... some things might be better but other things are worse. There are always problems, it's a human condition. I read books sometimes to escape from today's problems but if you become TOO lost in thinking of the past, you'll be miserable. You can think of those times occasionally for a bit of escapism but try not to get stuck there - it doesn't help.
