It's like task manager, except it shows you the programs you're closing down with less confusion

Leave any system processes running. Try Googling the names of the remaining processes to see which programs use them. If you really want to delete something, only delete one thing at a time. Restart if your system goes wonky.

Your computer will not speed up very much, you don't need to do this.

So not tech savvy and think they should be going through and removing tasks... nononono..

Pure and simple goto add/remove programmes and remove anything you don't use. Leave the rest well alone unless you know what you are doing. Yes, you could google the process names but my guess is knowing what it is and does will not help you decide if you need it.

end explorer.exe ;)

For awhile I had to do that and restart it to get my battery life to show up.

Closing them in the task manager will only work until the next restart, then you will have to do it again.

To completely stop something from starting up you:

1.  Start menu
2.  Run
3.  type    msconfig
4.  Figure out what could be stopped in the "Services" and "Startup" tabs.
