So my friend is getting a new car, and he is thinking about junking his old one.  I told him he should use it as a winter car.  He said insurance would be too much.  I told him it is normal practice among people with a nice car and a winter car to discontinue the insurance on the one they aren't using.

Is that correct?

You can. Or you can buy state minimum on the winter car, that way its good if you need to drive it, but you arent paying much for it.

I believe you can do that.  I would imagine it would depend on the insurance company and what their policies are.  You best not get caught driving that car for any reason without insurance.  I'm not sure how tolerant the laws are of driving without insurance though.

I could probably get away with all season tires if I had work all wheel drive.
