why is it that vista wont let me partition more than 5903 mb from my disk?

i have 260 gigs of space.

It depends on how you're trying to do it among other things. It may be that you only have 5903 megs of partitioned space. You can't usually repartition your hard drive (without some complicated steps) unless you reformat the WHOLE thing and lose some data. There's some software that'll allow you to resize your partition, thus allowing you to create a new partition that's larger than 5903 megs.

Like I said, without additional details, it's hard to determine the problem. If the "free space" you have already belongs to a partition, you won't be able to redistribute that space to a different partition without special software.
