We all have our own opinions on which virus scanner is the best. I remember I used to like the Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security combo. But I eventually found avast! and another firewall program to take Norton's place. I noticed a huge speedup in my computer's performance.

My dad hates Norton. He clings to McAfee too much because he just assumes if you pay for it, it's obviously gonna be better, right? Not always. I secretly uninstalled it without his permission, and installed avast! in its place, and he completely freaked cause all he really used it for was SiteAdvisor, which you can just get for free off their website.

I personally found AVG a little hard to use. I didn't know how to turn off the daily scan. I would find the option in the preferences to turn it off, but it still continued to scan daily on startup. But that's just my personal taste.

lol. Still, McAfree is better then AVG. No System Admins would recommend AVG unless they were either dumb or blind.

Its easy to turn it off, they may update their patches everyday, but its has poor pick-up rate.

I as a qualified SA would advise Avast over AVG, Hell anything other then AVG including AOL as it had better pick up rates.

Norton likes to find viruses that dont exist like trying to delete System 32.

Incorrect all of you who say Macs arent PC.

Personal Computer   - PC

Single-user computer: a computer with its own operating system and a wide selection of software, intended to be used by one person  - Encarta ® World English Dictionary

PC is NOT a company nor a brand, Its a name and Macs are PCs.

That's because most computers are PC. Apple has a very small market share. People don't bother making viruses for Mac because it wouldn't produce much of a return. It's more of an insult than a claim to glory.

What's the Linux ratio?

Who cares?

Sigh. There you go, Offical source that Macs are PCs.

Enough already. Put simply, we all use computers that run different operating systems. If the Apple ad campaign were really correct, Long would say, "I'm a Mac," and Hodgman would say, "And I'm a Windows." Oh, wait, that sounds odd. How about this: Long says, "I'm a Mac PC," and Hodgman says, "And I'm a Windows PC"? Of course, the ads would then be far less effective, because consumers might realize that the differences Apple is trying to tout aren't quite as huge as Apple would like you to believe.

Finally, after a few days of this, I couldn't stand it anymore, and I cut him off mid-jibe with: "Not for nothing, but PC Magazine has been covering the Mac since 1984. We regularly test Apple products, and many of them win our Editors' Choice award." I was talking fast, and while my brother-in-law seemed ready to offer some apology or joking rejoinder, I plowed ahead with what I thought was a zinger, "And by the way, the PC in  PC Magazine stands for "personal computer," and the Mac is a personal computer." My brother-in-law laughed, but he did look a bit startled by my intensity.

Most of those tests are rigged and are not a fair comparison on what the programs will actually catch. You will find many that will say AVG is great and others that will say they aren't. The only reviews I actually listen to to some extent are those on Top Ten Reviews and after that I find some others before using the product.

Also don't believe everything you hear the only sure way to know for sure is to use it. But from personal experience if you are going down the free lane I have found Avast to be much better that AVG in speed, reliability, and systems resources.
