Its not that parents want you to wait cuz they think you are stupid or can't handle it psychological. Its the repercussions of your actions you dont fully understand. While you are underage, you do not have the responsibility of life. You dont even have to buy your own clothes or food. How is it ok to put the responsibility of sex/baby in your own hands. Lord knows you can't handle it. No matter how strong or responsible you thin k you are. You're not. You would in no way be able to handle a baby. The bills. And the responsibility of life. That's why you must grow up and learn how to. All you know how to do is go to school and do homework. Awesome keep it up. You need skills and a path before you can take matters into your own hands. Would you want to have a child one day and have them tell you that they know it all. That they are able to have sex and go out and make their own curfew. When you are their parent Its you rules. You wouldnt want to have to pay for your child's mistake because they couldn't listen to you. As far as tattoos and piercings. No again. They want you to understand that one day you will feel different. You just will. You will wonder why you ever stuck a piece of metal through your body or ever got that tattoo of a star on your hip. etc. etc. The rules are their for you to understand that you cant break them. Real life has the same rules. In a round about way. You need to understand if you break their rules there will be consequences as in the real world. Everything they do is to prepare you. You have no idea. And the day you realize why they do what they do, You'll be like "ohhhhhhhhhhh". It will be a good day.
Prepare me? How? If you don't get responsibility and control over your decisions, how are you supposed to all of a sudden KNOW how to be responsible when you reach whatever age your country or state says you have to be to be considered an "adult"? Are you supposed to have all those skills and know which path is best by magic? Just because you reached a certain age? And who decided what the magic age is when you become a "grown up"? When you get to driving age, are you supposed to know how to drive a car if you've never driven one before? You can learn how the car works and what the rules are, but if you've never been behind the wheel and actually experienced what it's like you will crash and die or end up killing someone else. I think it's funny that you think tattoos and piercings are a stupid mistake when you are covered by them. You mean you only got them AFTER you were a "responsible adult"? I said that the only reason why I haven't had sex is because I have decided not to yet. As for having a baby, who told you I'd want one? Who says the only reason for having sex is to have babies? And who says all adults who do have children and CAN pay for them know what to do with them or hoe to raise them once they have them? Oh, yeah, I forgot. Because they reached that "magic" and arbitrary age when society tells them they have all the skills they need to do it. I agree that following certain rules while you live with your parents is fair. Because they do feed me and provide me with clothes, and other things. That's the same as having a job. Because they pay you you have to follow certain rules, but that doesn't mean that they own you or have the right to tell me how to behave when I'm not working.

Oh, by the way. My sentence on rape being illegal didn't mean that you won't be allowed to have sex anymore if you are raped. I meant that forcing you should be illegal but if somebody says "yes" voluntarily it is NOT rape and should not be illegal.

Okay let me try to do this here. One. Being an adult is not an age. Its a state of mind. Knowing how to deal. Knowing how to work well with others and live life. I.e. Pay for your house/apartment. Pay for car. Have a full time job and maintain it. Not get into trouble with the law. Be able to make good decisions on your own and be able to handle the consequences of actions. plus many more things. Lets say they tell you to be home at 9pm. And you want to be home at ten. They dont lean. So you're stuck with 9. But you say fuck it and come home at 10/11. You get grounded. Cause and effect. They tell you to be home at 9, cuz it a reasonable time. Not to make it so you cant have fun, but to give you guidelines to follow so that you will be home safe. Driving a car come with drivers ed and training. After you get your d.l. That system works fine. To say that, that is a comparable thing (being behind the wheel) to making your own decisions. Its not. If you were to crash. Who would be responsible? NOT YOU. Your parents. So if you're out at night and get into trouble (though you may not) whos responsibility is it? Again theirs. If you have sex and love doing. Everything is fine. But what if, WHAT IF you get pregnant. NO. All adults who have children can't pay for them, furthermore raise them. Its shit. They shouldnt have them. You dont even understand your parents parenting, let alone being able to parent. Its a just in case. so damn, sue em for wanting to protect you against a mistake that on accident could happen. And no. I love my tattoos. And turning 18 did not make me all of a sudden smarter. It just prevented me from being able to get them while be younger. Again from making a mistake. 18 doesnt mean you're an adult. Learning the lessons they try to teach you and showing them that you understand why. You are arguing against them. yeah some may seem hard but how is it not their right to be in control. They had you. With out them you wouldnt even be here. And if you dont like it, you just have to wait. Then you can be free. It sucks if they dont slowly give you more and more freedom to ease you into the real world. To ease you into making your own decisions. With every growing age, your curfew should be raised an hour. And with every growing month of proving to them that you can be responsible then they should give you some slack. If they dont that sucks.

As long as you live under my roof, you do whatever the fuck I say. - My Mom Deal with it, OP, or get the fuck out. If I ever have a daughter and she talks shit to me, I'll knee her in the face and remind her that she can leave my fucking house at any time. My parents did that to me this year (minus the knee; she threw a chair and I dodged)! It 'll be like this.. " Daddy, can I wear this top?" " I don't want you looking like a whore. I raised you to be a doctor, not a whore. Get something else. " " But daddy..I have a date.." " And if you put on that top, you'll go on your date and I'll lock that door, and your shit will be outside waiting for you, k? Good, problem solved. *reads newspaper* Oh, and be back at 9, you have piano lessons. " " But..but..daddy.." "Shut your fucking mouth. Go before I regret your existence as my child. And wear your chastity belt. " Post edited at 8:07 am on June 30, 2009 by Takinam

You're a child, that's the way it is. Just because you think you know better, and come up with a billion reasons why you should get whatever you want, you'll always be wrong. This isn't about maturity, is it? It's about your parents not doing or agreeing with your actions. Plain and simple... None of their 'rules' you've mentioned are unreasonable.. maybe you're intolerant.
------- I've got spurs that jingle jangle jingle. As I go riding merrily along. And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single?" And that song ain't so very far from wrong.

I'm not intolerant, they are. And I'm not a child, I'm a teenager. Childhood and Teenage are two very different stages in a person's life. That's why there are different names for both, because both are VERY different. I don't expect to be treated as an adult because legally and chronologically I'm not. I understand that. But because I'm not a child I expect not to be treated as one. This is not about maturity as much as the perception of maturity. Adults think they are mature simply because they are adults. That's not always true. Teenagers are not always immature and irresponsible simply because we are teenagers either. To the poster who said "if you want to be a whore," when did I say that I wanted to be one? I haven't had sex and don't plan on having it any time soon either. Even if I did, I do not want a baby. Not because I am immature and have no way of dealing with it, but because it's a choice. Just as adults decide when they want and don't want to have children. Parents have no right whatsoever to treat a teenager as if they own him or her, period. Forcing anybody to do whatever you say just because you have the legal power to do it isn't teaching and it's not appreciated. And when it comes to adult not being a specific age, as someone said above, the fact is that it IS about age. It's an arbitrary age. And that age does not guarantee that all of a sudden you are this mature, responsible, and wise human being. eightTEEN and nineTEEN are still teens, but all of a sudden, because someone decided it you are now seen as able to make your own decisions. The ONLY reason why eighteen-year olds are considered "adults" is because of wars. You have the right to join the army and kill others. That is ALL that being an adult at eighTEEN is all about. That means that the government thinks you are good enough to kill other people, but not old enough to smoke or sign contracts in some states. So in a way you are still not responsible enough to make those decisions? Who makes these decisions and how do they make sense? Post edited at 4:47 pm on June 30, 2009 by WickedWiccan
