I agree there is a difference between killing and murder...etc., etc., But keep in mind what was legal 2 centuries ago (slavery, wife beating) but are illegal now.

But keep in mind what was illegal 2 centuries ago, but is legal now. Like, uh, being gay, and um, having an abortion.

And a foetus isn't a child. There is no way you can prove a foetus is conscious in the same way you can prove a developing foetus is. There's a reason why it's called a 'foetus' and not a baby, also.

Also, read the article in Natsy's signature. What is my choice isn't your choice, and pro-lifers have made that decision before despite believing it's murder.

Anyway, the law's not going to change back to that. Abortion hasn't existed since it's legalisation. Do you really think women would go to the lengths of aborting a child when the risks of them losing their lives were so high? No. Stopping people from aborting their child will just make the situation worse. The worst thing anyone can do is a) force a woman to carry a foetus they can't/don't want to have b) force a woman to give up that child that they may actually want, but can't look after, or alternatively, ruin their lives by trying to raise it.

Pro Choice. How can you tell a women what she can or cannot do with her body? I personally would probably not get an abortion, but I would never judge anyone for doing so. I can't understand why people (especially men) think they have a right to tell women they can't terminate their pregnancy. Live and let live.

Live and let live.

There is some irony in that particular statement.  lol

As for me, I am militantly pro-choice.  A woman should be able to decide for herself if she wants to be pregnant or wants to carry a pregnancy to term.  Having said that, I believe you should make the decision to terminate early on in the pregnancy and not wait until the fetus is viable before going that route, though I recognize there are some situations where that isn't possible.

I am pro choice in some circumstances. But I also think you should take responsiblilty for the choices you make! If you chose to have sex, then you need to take responsibility if you do end up pregnant! The child should not be affected by the mother && fathers stupidity! (such as teen girls who decide to go to a party and end up having a one night stand.) They cannot help the events that they cannot prevent.

If  a woman/girl is raped, or if the fetus or mother is not going to make it, then abortion is more okay then it would be in other instances. The mother of the unborn child can develop a disease. The fetus could also be under too much stress in the womb to survive the whole 9 months. However, these cases only make up 2% of the cases in which a child is aborted.

I'm pro choice all the way, its serioulsy a girls choice and not a guys but if I have to choose I'm pro choice, you can be all pro-life but its dealing with a life that has already started and a life that is only just a thought.

And that thought life would be the gleam in the father's eyes?
a pregnant women's life has alredy started.
and the baby inside her's life has alredy started.
and sorry OP but abortion topics will never stop.
and never will our fight aganst it.

And you will never even come close to succeeding.  Abortion has been around since the dawn of man and woman, and will be around long after you leave this world.

So, basically, you believe it is okay to force a woman to carry a pregnancy as a punishment for being irresponsible?  That's the way your statement reads.

And why just "teen girls" - why not any woman who "goes to a party and has a one night stand"?  Teens (younger ones) are statistically almost twice as likely to die from a pregnancy related issue than an adult is.  Why do you believe it is acceptable to force a teenager to endure a possibly life-ending pregnancy because she had a one night stand if not to punish her for her sluttish ways?

If I'm given a baby and I'm not allowed to adopt or give it away, do I have a right to drown it?

I think it's hypocritical to say I don't have a right to murder a baby just because it's born but unborn babies can be murdered.

If you're given a baby, it's already been born and is not inside the body of another human being who has the right to decide whether she wishes to allow it to remain there.

Would you agree that, if another human being was dying, and by connecting that person's body to yours in order to live, we should have the right, over any objection you might have, to connecting that person to you specifically so that person would not die?  Even if it might potentially kill you?

That's a great question, actually.

But let's not talk about whether that person should be hooked up to me, but what my rights are after it happens.

And, let's say medical science knows in 9 months that person will become fully healthy again and be able to live freely without being connected to me - with this in mind, do you imagine medical doctors would kill that person even if that person's connection to me is only a transient inconvenience rather than a serious and permanent harm to my body?

If you foresee these people being killed by medical doctors, no questions asked and no controversy raised, then I'd say you've got a point.  Unfortunately, I somehow doubt you've actually thought through the abortion aspect of your analogy - the 'what to do' once someone is hooked up for a relatively short period of time to another person's body.

Will medical doctors 'abort' or not?

What do you think?

I take it you're just as annoyed whenever someone not affected by an incident gets involved with those who are.

Good point.

Actually, all of that is wholly irrelevant.

The root issue here is your right to decide what to do with your own body vs. the right of the government or any other person to decide what you should do with it.  It doesn't matter if the person would get healthy again or not in 9 months.  Even if it were 100% assured that the other person was going to get better, do you believe that you should lose your right to decide whether or not your body was used in such a manner, and that someone else should be allowed to make that decision for you.  That is, afterall, the basic element of a "pro-life" (the actual term is anti-choice, btw) position.

It *needs* to be assumed for your analogy to be as accurate as possible.  Don't bother using an analogy if you don't understand that.

I don't think I should have a right to abort someone, no.

Of course, someone getting hooked up to you is different from getting pregnant.  You should grasp the differences if you're as intelligent as you try to present yourself.

The bottom line, then, is whether doctors/public opinion would go along with 'aborting' these people who are only temporarily hooked up to other people to stay alive until after a determined period of time where they will be healthy and survive w/out being hooked up to someone's body.

If you would be outraged over such actions then you should be the same over the abortion of the unborn.
