Deuteronomy 13:12-18 (New American Standard Bible) 12"If you hear in one of your cities, which the LORD your God is giving you to live in, anyone saying that 13some worthless men have gone out from among you and have seduced the inhabitants of their city, saying, 'Let us go and serve other gods' (whom you have not known), 14then you shall investigate and search out and inquire thoroughly. If it is true and the matter established that this abomination has been done among you, 15you shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying it and all that is in it and its cattle with the edge of the sword. 16"Then you shall gather all its booty into the middle of its open square and burn the city and all its booty with fire as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God; and it shall be a ruin forever. It shall never be rebuilt. 17"Nothing from that which is put under the ban shall cling to your hand, in order that the LORD may turn from (E)His burning anger and show mercy to you, and have compassion on you and make you increase, just as He has sworn to your fathers, 18if you will listen to the voice of the LORD your God, keeping all His commandments which I am commanding you today, and doing what is right in the sight of the LORD your God.
That's a pretty great verse right there. Also notable:
Hosea 13:16 (New American Standard Bible) 16Samaria will be held guilty, For she has rebelled against her God They will fall by the sword, Their little ones will be dashed in pieces, And their pregnant women will be ripped open.
And all of Numbers 16 is basically genocidal throat clearing by God. It's some great shit.

What's fun is taking things out of historical context, as usual. Think about it--if you had to tell your people to conquer a land (as Moses did) and you left the sons and daughters and widows of that land alive, wouldn't it make sense that said sons, daughters and widows would eventually rise up against your people, rebel and kill them, or worse, inspire your people to start rebelling against their government and their God?
Sure, but how is killing every man, woman, child and infant the best way of settling the matter? That's a rhetorical question, the real answer is that there isn't any moral justification for swinging your dick around someone else's turf and then slaughtering everyone in the vicinity in the event some poor bastard expresses discontent.

Did I ever say that it was morally correct? No. I just explained the reasoning behind it. This doesn't mean that God condones it, but rather that Moses does and that it therefore became part of the Law. Furthermore, recall that we're looking at a world without grace and that, what's more, there are absolutely no occasions in the Old Testament in which a person was repentant and was still killed despite that repentance. Generally speaking, one ought to read the whole story before dismissing it.

Right, it's a thoroughly immoral and repulsive reasoning. You asked me to consider being in Moses' position, and KILL KILL KILL wasn't anywhere close to being my first thought. And if God doesn't condone these verses, one wonders why he has someone speaking for him. Frankly, if I were God, authoring (in one way or another) the foundational texts of my religion, I'd probably be peering very closely over the shoulders of the many people who would write and then copy my words through millennia. God isn't a very good copy editor, and I'd argue that his silence on the matter gives consent.

There's nothing for me to recall given that I have no idea what you mean by "grace." And even if the repentant weren't being killed, it doesn't change the fact they were living under a tyranny.

Consent and condoning are two entirely different things. Haven't you ever heard "If you have to, but I'd rather you not?" as a phrase out of someone's mouth? Frankly, I don't think you understand the history here at all, which is your misfortune.
There's nothing for me to recall given that I have no idea what you mean by "grace." And even if the repentant weren't being killed, it doesn't change the fact they were living under a tyranny.
In your opinion, which doesn't really count for much in the grand scheme of things, I'm afraid.

... But the bible is SO BORING. I CAN'T concentrate on it.
This is a built-in feature of the bible; the mind-numbing experience is confused for enlightenment.

there's loads of different versions which make it easier and more interesting to read and take in, plenty of atheists admit it's a fantastic book, full of incredible sotries and writing...even if they don't believe it lots of the people who say it's boring, haven't read the best bits of it. I suggest you try the "youth bible" or even "the message" which use more modern language, the youth bible uses stories to relate to which really does make it intereting.

And this is why Satanic theists make more sense defending Lucifer: seriously, are you even reading what you write? So God is a magnificent tactician who can utilize rape and genocide. Wonderful.
