Here in the United States, each state has the driver's license requirements set to a different standard. In Indiana here are the requirements: There are 2 types of permits: Learner's Permit-16 years old. You don't need to take a driver's education course, but you need to take a written test. If you pass the written test, you take the eye test. If you're under 18 years old, you must drive with a relative that has a valid driver's license. If you're over 18, you just need a person with a valid driver's license in the car with you...they don't have to be related. You have to hold your permit for 60 days until you're eligible to get a license. To get your license you have to: * Be at least 16 years and 180 days old; * Hold a valid Indiana learner's permit for 60 days; * Pass a standard vision screening test; * Pass a written examination; and * Pass a roadway skills test (unless you qualify for a roadway skills test waiver). Driver Education Learner's Permit-15 years old. You get this when you enroll in & pass a driver's education course that's approved by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles(BMV). You must drive with either by a certified driving instructor in a car with dual brakes, or by a parent with a valid driver's license. When you complete driver's education, you can drive with a relative that has a valid driver's license. Once you turn 16, you go into the BMV and apply for a learner's permit. To get your license, you have to: * Be at least 16 years and 30 days old; * Hold a valid Indiana driver education learner's permit for 60 days; * Complete a BMV-approved driver education course; * Pass a standard vision screening test; * Pass a written examination; and * Pass a roadway skills test (unless you qualify for a roadway skills test waiver). You have to wait 90 days after you get your license to be able to drive friends. After that we can drive cars, trucks, vans, or any other type of car. To drive a motorcycle though, you need to get a permit and license for that. Post edited at 4:57 pm on Nov. 18, 2008 by jelaimepourtoujours
