And it's bothering the crap out of me. I can't afford a cooling pad until Christmas, so I'll just have to put up with it.

When I turn it on, it's silent.  Then it gets a little whir.  Then the whir gets louder.

Is it because my laptop overheats a lot? Is there anything I can do to make it quieter?

Make sure the air vents aren't being smothered.

Do you use it on a table or at bed?

I wish the world was flat like the old days
Then i could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, or speedtrains, or freeways
There'd be no distance that can hold us back.

On a table - it's a TV tray.

I have the same problem. I usually just close some applications or turn it off for a while. I treat it like it's alive, so I just assume it needs to rest.

Try propping it up with a book....it needs air flow, which it's not getting flat against a surface.

look online for the manual for your laptop. somewhere in there it should tell you how to take it apart. it's pretty simple though... there are screws on the bottom that you just take out then pop the back off and clean
