My laptop screen is broken on one of my old laptops.  however, I want to view files and stuff I have on it.  I currently have it connected to a regular monitor, however, I'm not able to log in to any of the user accounts seeing as I can't see the screen.

how a I going to be able to view my laptop via my monitor without logging in first?

So...You cant get the video to display onto the monitor? Have you tried Fn + one of the F keys usually, either saying LCD, or having an image on it that looks something like a monitor? It varies by model btw.

Thats the easiest way to at least get the image onto the monitor, since you clearly cant set it in windows.

I'm not exactly sure on how you could do that, but another option is removing the hard drive from the one with the broken screen and installing it to another computer, then moving the files you want to a third party storage device. You could then switch the hard drives back out and access the files.

If you are just trying to view files you could pull out the hard drive and put it in an enclosure.  Then you have it out for future back-ups and storage.
