Also I have just read on the BBC that swine flu might die out but come back in Winter and in a more virulent form....but anyone who contracts it now will be immune to a more virulent form in the autumn/winter.....surely this means it is preferable to catch it this spring rather than winter?

That's my thinking. I want it now while only the really weak are dying from it.

Preferably after my exams though.

SARS, bird flu. These things were believed to be the next 1918 flu. Nothing big came out of it. Same will happen with swine flu.

SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT.

Well swine flu has already surpasses SARS in scale, although SARS was not as fatal it was not as transmissable. And Bird Flu was not transmissable human to human, so there was never an immediate threat.

Touche. But, people sitll need to stop believing the media and actually do research oabout the swine flu, and realize that it won't kill the entire population of the earth. It's essentially the same as the influenza virus.

I only really read the BBC news which is a rather reliable source, it has articles written by doctors and immunology and virology experts

Most of what I've been reading lately has suggested that this is going to end up being a glorified seasonal flu--a couple hundred thousand hospitalized, maybe 70k dead at the most. Certainly not the scale of flu epidemics in the past century, and certainly not anything to cry that the sky is falling over.

I went to the drug store today, I overheard people asking the people that worked there about masks and hand sanitizer. Apparently they're sold out of both. people are blowing this so out of proportion. If you're going to catch it, a little paper mask and some hand sanitizer won't do anything for you.

I don't see how swine flu is any different than the regular flu. The regular flu kills weak people all the time, like kids. All you have to do is just stay in bed, drink some orange juice, and wait it out. Closing down schools because one person has the swine flu is just retarded, I guess next time I get the normal flu I better tell them to close school down because it might be contaminated. Oh noes!!

There difference is this flu affects the respiritary system more severely and is indiscriminate. Young healthy people are at risk of catching and spreading the virus which makes it more transmissable.

Tests yet have not revealed whether this strain like the Spanish flu causes a cytplastic storm, which is the big killer. This is basically when younger healthy peoples immune systems overreact to the virus and kills them. This means younger healthier people are actually MORE at risk of death. These tests have not been confirmed yet, but even if this does not occur now it might in the more virulent form thought to reemerge in the winter.

I'm not too worried about the swine flu, it will probably only kill the elderly, infants and immunocompromised. Since I'm in none of those categories, all is well. :D

Read my post above. This flu is different because it is indiscriminate. It targets the young and healthy just as much as the elderly and compromised.
