That is why it always cracks me up when I read about "return to Africa" movments etc...I cannot imagine the entire black population of the US moving back to Africa. They would go into culture shock and be miserable, get aids and die more than likely.

Certainly.  If we're opening up speculation, a lot of things could have happened.  However, even with Western involvement, Africa is still woefully behind the world technologically and the emigration rates for the intervening two centuries would suggest that the ratio of blacks to whites in first world countries would still be much lower in the absence of the slave trade.

The slave trade doesn't have to be a good thing to have had a positive impact.

No, certainly not, it can have an effect that's good whilst the idea being bad. I mean who knows. It's definitely a plus side that helped America become more culturally diverse.

I dont like when people try to find good things in slavery. Especially when they arent black. I HATE it when people who arent black want to tell you how should feel about being black. They dont know anything. You should not tell me what to be greatful for, you should not tell me how to feel. If I wanted to feel that way, then guess what? I would. You do not and will never understand what its like, so just leave it alone.

I'm sure it might have been just fine.  Of course, this isn't a topic about the effect of the slave trade on Africa.  It's a topic about the effect of the slave trade on modern black people in Western countries who prosper while those "fortunate" ones whose forefathers weren't sold into slavery die in poverty and famine and epidemic.

I agree with KweenZ. Africa was doing just fine, they didnt need anyones help. Back then it was a very successful. YOu should really know the facts before you talk about this stuff.
