Hey All,

So, my little sister is in jr. high, and she already has a boyfriend. Not really all that big a deal seeing that kids are getting into relationships earlier and earlier these days, but she's been in several relationships lately and now she's decided that she is in love with this one. Problem is, they're both 13 and he's already had sex several different times.

He comes from a bad background, and he's not a bad kid, but he's never been taught how to be careful or that having sex early is bad. His dad is in jail, and his mom runs around. Anyway, my parents and I are trying to get her to understand that she needs to make smart decisions, and my parents really want her to break up with him, but she won't listen. She's acting like a spoiled little brat and doesn't care about what happens or what we say and do. We've threatened to ground her or transfer her to another school, but she doesn't care. She's stubborn and impossible to talk to. She's a selfish, spoiled, little brat and we have no idea how she got that way!

We are desperate!    Please help me figure out what to do. I've seen stuff happen to lots of girls who are acting the same exact way. We don't want to be the bad guys but Romeo and Juliet is ok as long as Romeo isn't trying to stick his hand up her shirt! She has no idea what she's getting into!!!

Thanks

I hate to say this, but maybe you should let her make her own mistakes. I mean if she's going to be that way about it and not even consider what you're parents are saying to be true, then maybe it's time to just let things take their course. If she fucks up, she fucks up. Maybe then she'll realize how stupid she is/was to not listen to you or your parents.

Now, I'm not saying I hope she gets pregnant. That would be absolutely horrible if she were to. I'm more saying like if he breaks her heart, then so be it. Sometimes you just can't talk people into listening to what you think/feel/believe. When that happens the person who is not listening needs to just make the mistakes and then hopefully learn from them.

Keep trying to talk to her though. Tell her that she deserves better and could even easily find better. Or even tell her to wait and find someone when she's older and more mature. Tell her that if she waits for the right guy, then real happiness will be hers. Don't strain yourself to get her to see your side of things, but at least just keep talking.

I'm sure this isn't easy watching your sister make some poor choices, but she'll figure it out sooner than later. Just be there for her and let her know she can always come to you to talk about things.

I love you!
